Hey this is Trabon, and I usually read posts rather than ask questions, but I really need some help on this one.

 

 

 

I really don't want to sit in a room makeing myself glow for 3-5 hours a day. I want to level up useing combat magic and not some conventional trick, so I made up my mind, I decided I would use combat magic to level my mage.

 

 

 

I currently got to 81 magic doing this. But then lately I havent been hitting as well as I used to I seem to splash with monsters that I used to kill fairly quickly with magic, It might have been the slayer update, and I havent changed spells. I really don't want to go into alching because then I will start loseing money and my state of mind.

 

 

 

Recently I have tried abberant specters that suffered from the crumble spell really well, but since the slayer update I splash almost all the time as if their mage def got a boost. Although It may just be I'm on an unlucky streak or I'm just crazy, I just need to ask my question.

 

 

 

What are some monsters that have low magic defence, but have drops that will recover your spendings for runes?

Don't rangers have a high mage def, what spell do you suggest?

 

 

 

EDIT: and mage robes will get cut by those range weapons and b2p wont keep up.

Aviansies aren't your normal rangers, I've maged them before and you can kill them at a decent speed, and b2p kept up for me.

I have tried aviansies, and they actually go through me really quickly, even with my 86 def. What armour do you suggest? and what spell?

Well what's your range? And what's your budget?

I have a budget of around 1-2m (I could get a few more mill easilly with a few days of runecrafting), but Im not useing range, although my range level is 76

 

 

 

EDIT: I can range avs fine, but I want to level my magic.

I asked your range level because a higher range level = a higher range defence. And I don't even have 70 yet and I was doing just fine. I used the setup found here.

 

 

 

Head: Saradomin mitre. Alternately, you can wear a Zamorak mitre and a Sara piece in the cloak slot.

 

 

 

Cloak: Cape of Zamorak. This provides a +10 magic attack bonus and a bit of defence, and also keeps the Zamorak monsters off your back. An alternative is a Zamorak Cloak, which provides +1 magic attack, +3 ranged defence, and a +3 bonus to prayer. Again, you can use a Saradomin item here if you wear a Zamorak piece in the head slot.

 

 

 

Neck: Pendant of Armadyl. You must wear this.

 

 

 

Quiver: Empty.

 

 

 

Weapon: Slayer staff, if using Magic Dart, or a fire or air staff if using an elemental spell.

 

 

 

Body: Ahrims robetop. The best magic robe in the game; splitbark or mystic robes are alternatives.

 

 

 

Shield: Dragonfire shield. This provides the best ranged defence in the game, assuming it is charged. A granite shield is not as good but is a lot cheaper and still provides good ranged defence.

 

 

 

Legs: Ahrims robeskirt. Again, splitbark or mystic are less desirable alternatives.

 

 

 

Gloves: Barrows gloves from the Recipe for Disaster quest, or whatever RFD gloves you have access to.

 

 

 

Feet: Infinity boots. Mystic is a much cheaper alternative at a cost of +3 magic attack instead of +5.

 

 

 

Ring: Seers ring.

funny, i was sure that only worked with mage, do you have any solid evidence? not that i dont trust you.

Don't worry, I don't trust me either, I just figured since it was with mage, it would work with range too...plus I think I was asked that same question when I asked about Avianses a while ago? I could very easily be wrong though.
