spudrow
I'm still bound and determined to give it premium consideration of earning 99 Smithing. I've done a detailed calculation sheet, that is completely rough and not at all accurate. What I need is some feedback, hopefully from experience, of how close I am with these estimations and any further advice before I begin. Also, a major need at this point, is some timeframe ideas of about how long this will take and/or how many bars I can smith within an hour. NOTE: For the sake of understanding the MOST amount of money I'd invest in such a task, I've put all bars I purchase at max amount & re-selling value at the lowest amount. Hopefully, it'll be somewhere in between but that is for another day. Level 70-73 = Mithril Bolts (1,501) Mithril Bar = 1,150gp - 1,271gp [1.9m] Mithril Bolt = 92gp - 101gp [1.38m] Total Loss = 500K Level 73-88 = Adamant Bolts (54,287) Adamant Bar = 2,235gp - 2,470gp [134m] Adamant Bolt = 202gp - 223gp [109.6m] Total Loss = 25m Level 88-99 = Adamant Platebodies (27,675) [138,379 Bars] Adamant Bar = 2,235gp - 2,470gp [341.7m] Adamant Platebody = 9,253gp - 10,226gp [256m] Total Loss = 85m 70-99 Smithing Total Loss = 110.5m Total Trips = 7,191 On a side note, all prices were retrieved from Zybez; whom I hope is pretty updated with the Grand Exchange. What I'd like to know, is there anyone who handles these items daily that could update me on how accurate these price ranges are. And if you feel my time could be better spent smithing something else, feel free to include that. EDIT Also, if I get really pinched for cash, I wrote this up as a secondary route. What I'd like to know is, how much time am I sacrificing instead of going the primary route? Time is money, and I'd definitely prefer to go the former route than to spend many more weeks of skilling. Level 73-99 = Adamant Bolts (192,665) Adamant Bar = 2,235gp - 2,470gp [475.5m] Adamant Bolt = 202gp - 223gp [389m] Total Loss = 86m Amount saved going this route = 24m Extra time spent skilling = ?To be determined
Low C
The mithril bar and bolt price looks right. And im not sure which is fastest to 99. Good luck though.

Mike_Ike111
You could also do iron knives or cannon balls, and save alot more money. Or at least you could do that route.
BabyPunchers
^both of those are insanely slow exp. Have you checked the rune bolt prices? That might be faster. Thanks to all those who have messaged me concerning a revamp of my Range-Slayer guide. Because of you all I will start rewriting it asap.[/color] Formerly RobinHoodie. Mike_Ike111
Slow would be the only method if you didn't want to lose 85m in the process. This one may be slow, but here goes. I've heard of superheating addy bars, then selling/making into bolts. It would be a good way if you want mage xp too.
spudrow
Have you checked the rune bolt prices? That might be faster. 1) Rune routes are extremely over-priced. I originally put my limit at 70m but I bumped it up to 110m just because I'm very adamant (no pun, I promise) about reaching this goal. However, I don't think I can willingly double that budget without some regret (and definite strain on other goals) 2) Am I correct to assume that Rune bolts do not sell very well in the Grand Exchange? I know I'm not the only one that thinks these to be over-priced so I'm curious. If they have a stable popularity about them, it could be considered. I shall further research this, or welcome advice regarding it.
Jeremiah52
Or you can simply do what I'm doing to get 99 Smithing, which is buy iron ore, smelt it in Port Phasmaties, and make knives in Varrock, then sell them. The total earning is close to 40 million starting from scratch, the time is approxamitly 80 days if you spend 5 hours a day either smelting 2500 ores and smithing them to knives, or smelting 5000 ores, or smithing 5000 bars. It's not bad, and quite fast, the ammont needed is roughly 340K. Going for 99 Smithing!!

It may be a good profit, but you will be so damn bored.
lordkafei
Unless things have changed, rune bolts are huge money losers. Buy addy bars at the low price. Sell the bolts (unf) at the high price. Don't play the middle price game. And be patient. You may not instantly buy your bars, nor sell your bolts. But if you are patient, you will buy & sell at close to your chosen price. People get panicky when they can't place a GE order and have it take effect instantly. I placed my buy and sell orders and waited days sometimes for the transactions to go through. I have found that weekends are great times to sell and weekdays are great times to buy, FWIW. Robert_de_Sable
That's a lot of money, and it doesn't seem like it's worth it for 99 smithing. But if you really want to, go ahead. [English translation needed]

corbud
The majority of the time I just bought the bars and smithed.....this time I needed to buy ores, cuz I couldn't afford 99 if I bought bars.....I would say from 70-98/99 it took me about 6 months, unless you work constantly.....Then you can cut it down a bit......it takes time, but its worth it......At least I think it is and I only bought ores for the last 36,750 bars haha....cost me 50m at minimum in total 1673rd person to 99 smithing! whatisup618
Well Im guessing your not afraid of money loss but.... You could use the blast furnace which makes you a nice profit with mith bolts ( not so sure with the addy because you cant unote it there). Its not bad smithing exp but is somewhat tedious Proud Owner Of A Quest Cape As Of 4/29/

zaybex
I generally don't go for saving only time or only money; I do a bit of both to break even. I get a chance to think "At least I'm making a profit" or "At least I'm saving time", and after having done it the opposite way for a while, it makes feel a bit better about my method. Though, I don't smith much. First skill to 70...
