Baal you bastard.

Don't you know the first rule of MMO's? Anyone higher level than you has no life, and anyone lower than you is a noob.

People in OT eat glass when they are bored.

Bulldogs charge is a pretty good game.

Play it on a field, the objective is to fun from one side of the field to the other without being caught. When you start pick 2 people to be catchers, they pick one person to run. When the picked person runs a certain distance he calls out "Bulldogs charge", then everyone runs to the other side and anyone who gets tagged / tackled along the way is then a catcher. Slowly the runners diminish and get transfered to the catchers side.

Enjoy being a leader at the camp ::'

If you have a pool, play Sharks and Minnows too. It's the same thing, but in the water.

The Game is fun, but it's not really a camp game. I don't get how this would promote bonding.

I will definately +1 to manhunt. Really fun game, especially if you play in the woods. Better in small groups though, too easy to get caught in large groups. May not be good with younger children or if you have a curfew (we always played at around 10-11pm because its too easy in the sunlight). But it's fun no matter when you play it, or with however many people.

My most favorite game to play at camp though is capture the flag. It's easy, gameplay can last awhile, it promotes teamwork and creativity...there's really nothing bad about it.

More team builders:

Minefield - you place something on the ground, maybe pieces of paper if it isnt windy, cans, whatever. One person is the leader, and the rest of the group is blindfolded. The leader must lead their team through the minefield from a stationary point, while making sure the members of their team don't hit anything, and the first team gets a prize or something. If someone hits something, they can restart or get a penalty of time or something. Really fun game.

Multi-person tug of war is quite interesting. You tie 4 ropes to a ring of metal or something sturdy (unless you're amazing at knots), and then have people stand in the 4 cardinal directions (or basically a + ), and have them pull. It's harder because you have to try and strategize to get the ring over their mark. It is a strength challenge, but there's more to it than brute force.

[hide=Funny Quotes]

So you sucker punched a kid in the back of the head? Good job.
What scares me is that you're like 10 years old.
-.- im not that freaking young
You were a couple years ago.
It's not racist if its true.
Hmm... I wonder how one goes about throwing someone out a window in a mystic fashion :-k

The mental image for that is freaking awesome.

I'm working as a camp counsellor at a camp for kids with special needs (ie. disabilities). One activity we did during pre-camp training was "Pitching a Tent," but with a twist. Two or more groups would compete to try and be the first to pitch their tent. However, each person in the group would be assigned a certain limitation. For example, one person may not be able to talk, another not able to see, another not able to use their arms, etc. (usually assigned based on their experience with pitching a tent). This activity forced everybody to work together, and it's also pretty fun.

Only advice I can really give is to make everything spontaneous and fun. For example, even a game as tense as Rock, Paper, Scissors (which often has quite a substantial gain/loss) can be adapted to remove some tension. In our camp, we use full-body actions; e.g. rock is curling up into a ball, paper is standing up straight, and scissors is a star (like a jumping jack). Minor changes like these really help to make camp a more positive and fun experience. Having kids laugh and joke together is really important!

In terms of camp-wide games, we recently played an adapted game of CTF, where those defending the flags could only tag by throwing wet sponges. Another good one is Armageddon, where each team has a fire that they need to defend. Attackers run with cups of water and try to put out the enemy fire.

Good luck as a counsellor. I don't know about your camp, but working at a camp for kids with special needs is a really life-changing experience! Have fun, and face everything with a positive and spontaneous attitude, and I'm sure the team building activities will come naturally!

Here's a good site for more ideas:

Thanks for the ideas everyone. The game might not be great for 9-10 year olds (I found out what cabin I was working today). Sharks and minnows is a classic that I can't believe I had forgotten about. I used to play it in the pool all the time. I like the basically hide-and-seek game ideas and I wonder if I would actually be allowed to use fire for that dousing the fire game.

^Set up a flag some where strategic. Then have a team (or 2?) try to capture it while the other guards it.Pretty much it.

So basically you steal the flag and excape with it?

From my knowledge there have been variations, but yes thats pretty much all I can recall.

variations always make it fun, eg 1 flag, area split in half in enemy half you can get tagged must take flag to your half to win, to be really cruel/for a challenge blindfolded more for open spaces and a large flag with it actually being a flag on a short pole

^Also,I once made them climb a tall pole to get the flag (they had to just take the cloth). And we didn't have two teams trying to get each others' flag,we had three teams trying to get the same flag. The flag if the person carrying it is shot, goes to whoever gets it first, regardless of shooter/shot.(Though the shot is disquallified for 30 seconds as a penalty)
