Sbrideau
Hi, I just bought a laptop a few days ago that has Vista home premium on it. As a lot of you I suppose, I turned off UAC, but I still have some icons on the desktop that has some shields as you will see in the following screenshot. I have had some help to get rid of them, but it didn't work. I can work with it, it doesn't matter, but it's just for the way it looks. Also, since I turned off UAC, I have that little red shield with the X in it telling me to reactivate it each time I start the computer. Is there a way to stop it from doing that? [hide=Big image][/hide] Second thing, I tryed to install my printer, but I don't know how to since it says I need to run on administrative account, and the thing is, it's the only account I can go in while on regular Windows, means it's the admin account. Could someone help me with that? Thank you in advance for those that can help me :)
VjuliusT
The little shield is "Run as administrator" and I'm pretty sure that you can right click and change it so can you run it normally or as the administrator.
nomar04
To get rid of that annoying thing for UAC, as well as hide the other icons that you don't want to see, just right click on the task bar->properties->notification->customize. That will show you a list of everything in the task bar, and you just choose hide for the behavior for the ones that you don't want to see. As for sloter, I already disabled UAC ;).

When you are finished disable the account for security net user administrator /active:no I am sure there are easier ways to do this but that is how I did it. Sbrideau
I did what you said VARN, and only on the hidden admin account did it tell me that Vista was not in the supported OS's for the CD... Actually came back to the regular account and I downloaded the Vista driver and it worked, the printer is installed. As for the shields, I don't really mind having them there :). Furah
could someone please answer the shield question, as it will help me, because I don't want to have to disable the UAC yet can't stand the fact I have to click Allow every time I open the program -.- (I didn't want to start a new thread, and I hope I am not thread hi-jacking  ) Steam | PM me for BBM PIN Nine naked men is a technological achievement.
