Ginger_Warrior
Any doctor or even a nurse should be able to take a blood sample and have it sent off to a lab for testing. They'll then usually post the results back to your GP, who will inform you of the test's results and any action that may need to be taken. There aren't really any home-test kits for HIV, so I strongly suggest that if you even suspect you have an STI, you go see someone at your GP's clinic asap. They are bound by confidentiality so your close relatives shouldn't need to know if you don't want them to. I'd also suggest that if you've had a sexual relationship with anyone recently, you tell them so they can get themselves checked out too. | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |
Sumpta
Haven't got a lot to add to Ginger's excellent advice, except this. The tests don't actually test for the virus itself, they look for the antibodies you create to combat the virus. This means that in order to be certain you're not infected, some time must pass between the sexual contact you thought was dangerous and the test. Can be between 6 weeks and three months. Have the doctor explain this to you when you are tested.

Which is why so many things go horribly wrong when people get checked out a few days later, then think they are safe, and then pass it on a few months later. But yea, it's just like going for a cold, except you get a blood sample taken from you. You can also phone your family doctor or whatever, and they can mail you the papers, which you can fill out, and then go to a blood clinic, get the sample, and then wait for the results to be mailed to you or your doctor.
