InkofDeath
Either because I'm bored, or because I like to fool myself with imaginative possibilities that will probably never come true, I decided to build, and what I think is, a high end gaming computer. So basically, I'm not really going to be getting any of this in the near future, or at all. Basically wanting your thoughts, and suggestions to improve this system to the max so that it is out performing most other computers. There really is no price restriction except that nothing should go over $700 per part. But if something requires two parts, and they are each 500 dollars, it is acceptable. Anyways, here's what I have collected so far through-out Newegg: Case $159.99: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6811133021 PSU $299.99: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817121037 CPU Fan $54.99: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6835106080 HDD x2 $149: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822148295 Logitech G15 Keyboard: I own this already....lol. MotherBoard $339.99: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813186144 Video Card x2 $189.99: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814129112 RAM; DDR3 (2 RAM Cards $204.99 x2: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820231189 ROM Drive $104.99: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6827106227 Mouse $64.99: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6826105074 Speakers $142.00: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6882627065 Monitor $489.99: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6824254026 OS $179.99: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6832116493 Total Price: $2923.89 Not Included: CPU I *think* that's all I'm really missing is the CPU, as I'm having a difficult time trying to pick the right one...What one would be best to handle all of the above, especially vista 64b? Suggestions? I'm not a fanboy of amd or intel so doesn't matter. ----- So yea, any suggestions, or things to add, any compatibility issues that I've missed please inform me, or if you find anything better. Also excluding the CPU, rate the current parts? Thanks, and hope we can have fun with this. =)
OldJoe
Lol, i do this maybe once a month.. just picking parts for fun. I'll add my own system in an hour or two (commercial-break on a Jackie Chan movie i'm watching atm, think it's "the medallion"). Intel comes with some new CPU's in a couple of months (the high-end ones, "mainstreams" come not until next year sometime).. So i'll skip choosing them and pick one of the Extreme ones. Is it ok to pick the new ATI 4870x2 which is released on tuesday next week? Otherwise i'll pick the Gtx 280's... I'll try a pretty extreme machine lol. Fun thread, good initiative! OldJoe
@ Skatedog: Two very price-worthy CPU's - Intel Core 2 Quad, q6600, 2.4ghz, is at 195$ and AMD Phenom 9850 2.5ghz, 210$ Both of those two quads are really price worthy. And you can always save money by overclocking the cpu a bit, just a couple of 100's mhz and you'll be damn fast. @ Eggz: Your cpu and mobo are using different sockets. QX9775 uses LGA 771 and your mobo uses LGA 775. And lol, three 30" screens? Anything over 24" would be too much for me, especially when you're at such a short distance to the screen. dsavi
How about 2 of these... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819117165 (Intel Xeon 3 GHz) But I'll have to see if I can find a motherboard that would support that, didn't look at the one you had. EDIT: Oops, that's only dual core. I'm looking for quad. In my dream computer, I would have two (Or more) of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819117163 But that's out of the question, too expensive. How about this for an optical drive? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6827129021 2x of these: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-SyncMaste ... dsavi
^Nah, you can't get so far with Dell, if you want a real computer you have to assemble it yourself.

JoeDaStudd
I managed to get an alienware to hit the $11000+ mark without any monitor(s). If you customise this to include the SSD's in raid 0, Triple SLi, etc. And they say they don't rip people off.
