Johannas
[hide=original question]Hey guys, I have spent the last week testing out barrows with magic. Just a few questions... 1. Is it worth ranging them? If so, with what? And how many chests would i expect to get with each trip at 75 range? I have been using slayer dart with this setup and get 3 chests per trip [hide=Slayer dart setup and invo] (Bolts are emerald (e) I have also tryed using ancients using this setup and get about 6 chests per trip [hide=Ancients setup and invo] This is based on 500 casts of ice blitz, 100 casts of blood spell at level 80 (not sure of name) and 10 teleports to canafis pub 2. I use on average about 10 doses of prayer pot when using slayer dart, and 5/6 when using ancients. How can i change my setups to get more chests per trip? And how many chests per trip should i expect then? 3. What would you change about my setups? 4. If i relyed on just blood spells and blitzes whilst on magic with a full invo of prayer pots (with no emergency sharks) how many chests would i get per trip? 5. Any more comments of mage methods appreciated :D 6. How many chests could i get per trip by using melee? Could someone post something similar to my screenshots please? (invo and setup) 7. Any further comments on melee appreciated too :D Thank you so much for all your time[/hide] Thank you for all your answers guys, they really helped me!! Thank you to tripsis for an awesome sig! 123_x_pac
I did a one trip using Claws of Guthix to see how it worked, it took less time than with slayer dart and the only downside was I couldn't auto-cast cause I don't have a void mace. But using this method, I figure you could do more trips without banking. toast647
Don't bring that druid pouch thing, and do the quest so you can use the boat shortcut to barrows, really cuts down on time. 4. If i relyed on just blood spells and blitzes whilst on magic with a full invo of prayer pots (with no emergency sharks) how many chests would i get per trip? Probably 5-10 unless you mess up the door and can't get back up. I do it all the time :-# 6. How many chests could i get per trip by using melee? Not a lot, your melees are way too low Use a zammy book, and bring more bolts. Also use broad bolts if you can, they are cheaper than mith and better than addy Come to #tip-it on Swift IRC, if you're cool
Bad911
1. Uhm, mage all the brothers, except ahrim which you range. - Your slayer dart setup is horrid, The barrows brothers have so little defense it doesn't matter if you have -10 magic bonus, you'd hit relatively the same. Maybe less frequent, but your invo looks like it was made 3 years ago. >> Get black d'hide with a neitznot helmet. You need prayer bonus. Get barrows gloves if you have them, and get dragon boots, you want defense, not magic bonus. >> Your invo.... Why are you useing a c'bow? Use a Msb, ahrim will pound you to death if you use a c'bow. Get some broad arrows or mithril arrows. Don't use that dds, pointless. Also, ectophail? That thing is totally old school, how do you even use that thing. I use fairy rings, i think it is the best, the second best is a house teleport. Get one of those things, and your set, bring house teleports and make a alter in your house. That way, you can repray on your alter, and either 1. go to edgeville with a mounted glory to use the fairy ring there, or 2. use a homemade teleport to Canifis. THE MOST i use is 2 doses of prayer pot, the amount of p-pots you have right there is like a life-time supply to me. And why're you useing sharks?! I hope you don't BUY those things. I use tuna/swordfish, cheap and i fish them. So your invo should look like this: -Teleport runes to house (teletabs take too long to buy) -Slayer dart runes -MSB -Spade -Dramen/Lunar staff **optional if you have a house teleport -1 Prayer pot, that should last you 2 trips if its 4 doses -Rest is food (CHEAP FOOD) Wow, and thats just number one. 2. Holy Crap, read above ^ You should expect 1 trip per chest, because you should always recharge your prayer in your house. 3. Read above ^ Your setup is horrid 4. No, ancients, don't even try it. 5. uh, right 6. You can't do the verac method, you need like 90+ in all stats. so don't even try 7. uh, right EDIT: I forgot the most important thing. The reason i use only 2 doses of prayer pot is because i have a base starting prayer of 60. I first, kill dharok, then i kill karil. That should use almost all your prayer. Then i range ahrim, kill verac, kill guthans, kill torag. Which ever one was my tunnel brother, i still use this order and skip the one that was my tunnel brother. Now, in the tunnels, you want to know how to use the safe spots. There is a perfect one in the NORTH EAST corner room. In that room is a safe spot, and the two adjacent side doors that open into the outter tunnels also have safe spots, so just spam the doors until you summon your brother. If your brother is ahrim, just range him. If your brother is KARIL, the thats where your prayer pot comes in, it should only be used as an emergency for karil. Karil will kill you with no prayer. asianboy7o7
not even gonna touch setup 2 because i dont ancient barrows much 1.dont wear ahrims to barrows you can wear a torso and granite legs which is like -70 mage and still hit pretty well on the barrow brothers except ahrim take out that druid pouch lol
Lenticular_J
Your setups look good and whatnot, but for speed runs I found that if I simply just did one chest per run, I was actually able to fit at least one more run in per hour. My fastest run was a little under eight minutes when I was doing some speed runs, and my slowest as a little under ten. Other people have answered the other questions. catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream
kdb148
I'm not sure why you are using so many doses of prayer potion. You don't need to pray on any of the melee brothers besides Dharok, and if you are using ancients, you shouldn't need food for any of them - you should have no problem maging them in full melee armor. If you bring Karil's or dhides, you don't need to pray against Ahrim, either, so you should use, at most, 3 doses of prayer potion per run since you should only pray against Dharok and Karil. I've found that doing more than 1 run at a time is pointless - it doesn't take much more time to tele home, recharge your prayer, and get back to barrows than it does to get back upstairs after you open the chest. But if you are insistent upon staying there for multiple runs, the best way to maximize your # of chests per trip is to use barrows gloves and your best magic boots, your best melee armor, bring your best magic defense top and bottom for Ahrim, and fill the rest of your inventory with prayer pots. Only pray on Dharok and Karil, use blood spells as necessary to heal. I personally prefer to range Ahrim, as he's harder to mage, and melee Karil, but that's optional, and you'll probably maximize your chests per trip with more prayer pots instead of more weapons. Nash
you should just pray on ahrim, karil and dharok, and tank the rest: heres my method that i love. bring torag or something with GOOD def. bring like 14 ppots and 8 sharks (and also like 150 sharks noted and some cash) black salamander!! just rebuy sharks from genstore when needed and i stay there forever with this setup Pixel Signature Made By Me.Pixel Art Tutorial * Pixel Gallery * My Free Pixel Sigs Shop
weirdoweirdo
Well using ancients, you'd only need 1-2 doses of prayer pot per run, if you do it properly. I can manage 8 runs with 4 prayer pots, and around 600 ice bursts, with bones to peaches to heal up in the tunnels, since I dont' have guthans. If you look here, viewtopic.php?t=376908, and scroll down a bit, you'll see a step-by-step guide on how to avoid the melee brothers, just use prayer on karil, and ahrim if you have extra. The way you used ancients is very inefficient, because you use many prayer pots for so little runs. 1st fire cape May 14, 2009 finally =D.2nd fire cape June 16, 2009 =P.
