Triquos
Ok so this problem started around the 15th of April this year. RS ran fine for me for the last 5 years and then as soon as we downloaded the newest version of trend micro internet security 2008, Runescape started disconnecting 50+ times a day (not exaggerating.. I actually counted how many I got in 1 and a half hours and I got 25, so times that by 2 and you have atleast 50 a day). It was INSANE, i'm sure internet cafe's were doing even better than me. It is slightly better now, but i'm still disconnecting 30+ times a day. (note that i've played guild wars and I only disconnect maybe once every now and then, this also doesn't happen with other games i've tried so it seems to only be runescape related) Here are my system specs: Operating system: Microsoft Windows XP Professional Java version: Version 6 Update 7 Processor speed: 6300 @ 1.86GHz Amount of RAM: 2GB Web browser: Internet Explorer 6.0 (version i've always used and everything ran fine on) Internet Connection: Broadband - Telecom as the internet provider Graphics Card: NVidia GeForce 7600 GT Approx. Total Memory: 256MB So as you can see I have a very high speed and capable computer, it's not as if it's an old crapper as such  Now I don't know the cause, i've tried almost everything (except for wiping the whole computer and starting fresh), so these are some of the things i've tried that didn't do anything: - Internet versions 6.0 and 7.0, mozilla firefox and safari - Trend micro internet security 2008 - Trend micro 2007 (previous version used when everything WAS running fine) - Uninstalling trend micro (both versions) - Disabling the firewall feature in trend micro - AVG antivirus software - Latest version of Java (version 6 update 7) - RS downloadable client - Tried all servers and at different times (highly populated worlds make me disconnect faster) - Using only runescape by itself (no other windows open like video sharing websites, music etc.) yet before this problem I could have 5+ windows running and still not disconnect, so this shouldn't be the cause. - Low and High detail - Playing RS using all the *java options* (sun java, microsoft java, unsigned and signed java) - Made sure we have the ethernet lead cable (which helps a lot with disconnections etc.) - Made sure we have up to date filters (even bought and put in new ones to make sure) - Got in a computer specialist for $140 to take away the computers and run scans. Results came back and said it had nothing to do with the computers - Restarting the computer, as well as the modem - Uninstalling the internet versions as mentioned before, and installing them again - Internet (watchdog) and phone (telecom) providers both said it wasn't a problem at their end (but these days no one ever wants to claim responsibility for these things so..) - Sent 3 queries into Jagex over the course of 2 weeks and all came back with automated responses (although the last query did actually have ONE sentence claiming defragging the computer would seem extreme  yes it would be.. but it seemed my only option when all they were doing was telling me to try things i've already tried) - As a last resort I did a whole system restore TWO weeks before it all started and it did nothing, so that SHOULD have fixed the problem but it didn't so... Possible causes: ** Internet provider - Watchdog (it's a game problem so, this would usually be the main culprit lol  ) ** Phone provider - Telecom (usually not good with communication and facing problems - as the guy we spoke to about this took forever to answer, so much so that we thought he hung up on us but he hadn't LOL, he was very unhelpful and we stated everything we tried and he just said it was probably our computer and that it was too old or something - which it clearly isn't, so we just ended up no better off than before) ** Trend micro internet security 2008 (could have enabled/disabled something that shouldn't have been) as I don't think it was COINCIDENCE that all the disconnections started when we installed the 2008 version. ** The computer specialist said it could also be a problem with Jagex's server lines, so when it comes back here in NZ, I disconnect. But not everyone is facing this problem (I do know a few that have this exact same problem but it's such a minority that Jagex probably won't take any action if this was the case anyway) and if that's the case, shouldn't every disconnection be the same time apart? E.G. disconnect exactly every 5 minutes etc. so I don't think this is the case but it's still possible. As a last resort I think I might just get assistance from my cousin who knows tons more than most people, either that or i'll try to get my brother to wipe the computer and start fresh. If the problem still occurs then it will tell me that it is either the computer itself, or the connections within the house (internet/phone provider) which will be awesome. The Observer
Hmm, maybe try disabling Trend Micro and then play RuneScape, just temporarily and tell us your results.

Triquos
Hmm i've tried that before  I also tried reverting back to the 2007 trend micro version to no avail. And yet it all started when I downloaded the 2008 trend micro version, I just don't get it :wall: Also when the problem didn't exist, all 3 computers in our house ran runescape perfectly, but when we installed the 2008 trend micro version on all 3 of them, they immediately went disconnect-crazy when playing RS. I think trend micro 2008 version enabled or disabled something which is making me disconnect in RS, i'm 90% sure that's the reason
eggzs
maybe a firewall of some sort needs to be disabled
sloter
If your talking about downgrading why not try completely uninstalling it and trying?
Triquos
If your talking about downgrading why not try completely uninstalling it and trying? Because i've done that ;) About disabling the firewall - unfortunately i've done that too =( lemme add that to the list  Edit: disabling the firewall - added to the list of tried things  I think if worse comes to worse i'll get my cousin to come in and try solve the problem, get my brother to defrag the computer, or just buy my own computer (mum and dad won't let me wipe the computer clean coz they think it might ruin the other computers coz they're linked up) and if a new computer doesn't work then it'll definitely show that it's something to do with the wiring in the house - we've always had bad lines in our house with lightbulbs exploding, flooding from the dishwasher when we first moved in etc. etc. but if it was a wiring problem the whole computer would be effected not just RS, so it shouldn't be that :|
The Observer
Hmm, you might have some corrupt registry keys that are unable to be removed normally. I'm not exactly sure about that, but that's a possibility. :-k
sloter
I don't know if it needs to be taken this far but you could do a system restore to when it last worked and see if that fixes it.
Nadril
I don't know if it needs to be taken this far but you could do a system restore to when it last worked and see if that fixes it. Seconding this, system restore to before you installed 2008.

Triquos
Thanks guys but that's in the already tried list  I restored it two weeks before it all happened and still nothing different. That's one thing I thought for sure would fix it :|
sloter
Hmm... to be honest i don't know that you should take it even this far but reinstall the OS. You could have had it reinstalled by now and back online isntead of sitting here still fighting with the problem.

manitstinks
try downloading mozilla firefox as your browser. Internet Explorer doesn't work for me now but firefox is so good
Triquos
I fail to see how that has anything to do with helping me with my disconnection problems Sloter, and thanks for insulting me :| With the firefox thingy - that too is in the already tried list It seems to me no one is actually reading the thread to see what has and hasn't been tried so i'm closing the thread. I'll just get my cousin to try fix it or my brother now.

OldJoe
Might i ask before it's closed, do you disconnect just on RS or does it happen while surfing too?
