Punitive_D
I'm one of those players who never buys something that I can get for free on my own. So, for example, I craft my own runes, and I gather my own pure ess. At first, I went through the tiresome process of mining ess. That almost convinced me to break my usual rule and go ahead and buy the ess that I needed. But one day I was playing the temple trekking minigame trying to get full lumberjack (which I did). By the time I had collected full lumberjack, I noticed that I had accumulated a LOAD of pure ess, easily more than I could have mined in the same time. So I vowed never to mine pure ess again (why would I?), and I haven't. Recently, someone suggested that he gets pure ess from killing banshees. (It's hard for me to imagine that this is faster than temple trekking, but to each his own, I guess.) Then I started thinking that this isn't the only commodity that I now harvest as a drop rather than in the traditional way. For example, I get snape grass by killing waterfiends -- I no longer run around picking it up and killing hobgoblins on the side. I don't craft deaths -- doubt I even have the level, but it wouldn't matter because infernal mages drop so many that it doesn't make sense for me to craft (unless I'm training runecrafting). So I thought it might be interesting to hear other people's experiences with harvesting commodities through drops rather than in the traditional way. Bouwzie
I prefer to keep my stats balanced, so I only do combat through slayer. This makes it so that I don't collect stuff through combat, but I use my "skills" (not always skills, for example: Snape grass collecting). Dire_Wolf
Hard to say, i do some skills for the levels and advantages. But i do alot things that is same as you do, one is waterfiends. ;) At Saradomin boss: we get tons supplies: * Unicorn horn * Tons laws (1 trip a teammate got 700 laws!) * Snapegrass * Vials of water So on, but i don't persuade things like that though. AndyPandy
I'm a lazy G.E guy. If I get any supplies from drops or minigames, I sell them, unless I really need them. I just buy whatever I need when I need it. I really only do this because I don't go on for that long right now, so I want to maximise the exp I get in my time online. So don't let anyone tell you you're not worth the earth, These streets are your streets, this turf is your turf, Don't let anyone tell you that you've got to give in, Cos you can make a difference, you can change everything, Just let your dreams be your pilot, your imagination your fuel, Tear up the book and write your own damn rules, Use all that heart, hope and soul that you've got, And the love and the rage that you feel in your gut, And realise that the other world that you're always looking for, Lies right here in front of us, just outside this door, And it's up to you to go out there and paint the canvas, After all, you were put on the earth to do this, So shine your light so bright that all can see, Take pride in being whoever the [bleep] you want to be. Kimberly
The new Armored Zombies and Tormented Wraith NPCs drop planks in noted form fairly often, and both have a chance at 'decent drops' (Except the TW drops elixers, too) I'd do them if I ever wanted to train construction (though I'd probably camp at AZ for better experience)

Obtaurian
Before I had a set goal, I would do everything myself. Nowadays, when I play, I'm slaying. Constantly. There are only two types of items that I buy: cannonballs and potions. If I were make my own supplies, I'd be skilling more than I'd be slaying, and that's unacceptable while I'm trying to get to 90 Slayer. I'm now a pretty firm believer that time equals money, and time spent gathering your own supplies is money wasted. I would only collect my own supplies if the experience gotten or the cash saved was completely worth it. Remember, I used to gather everything myself. Since breaking that habit, I've leveled far more quickly than ever, and I do have more money. To put it bluntly, [bleep] off.
JustAGamer
I dont get these often enough to make it self-sufficient, but i salvage some money on super restores from General Garrdor. He drops 3 noted snaps a few times in a trip, and the occasional seed. Depends on your team's ls though. :? this link kills spam
Hermon
What you said pretty much summed up why I love slayer so much. Gems/hides from drops -> Crafting Essence -> RC Noted logs -> Fletch, FM Runes -> Magic Charms -> Duh Seeds -> Farming, Herblaw Noted ores -> Smithing Bones -> Prayer just to name a few... By just training my slayer, I gain resources for all these skills that can be put to use at a later time. Suits my hoarding personality perfectly  alright. once, there was a family of the dad, Joe, the mom, Sue and the son Jim. one day they were sitting at the breakfast table eating pancakes. the next thing they knew, 3 giant penguins came in and bit their heads off. they died. the end
tintin113
I guess I kinda do kill for comodities, I make most of money and get most of my herbs and gems and such from Slayer, and then get coal and logs from MTK. Thanks to Quarra for the awesome sig!Xbox360 Gamertag = Tintin113
psvstef
Was it used in F2p PKing before?? <-- I honestly don't know but I'm guessing not. Will it be used in F2p PKing when PvP comes out?? <-- Same answer as to the above (probably not.) wrong topic?
Randox
Except training magic, everything I do is geared towards making money to some degree. When I mine, or smith, I am intending to do so in a way in which I have a net profit. I dont need to make alot, and I would rather smith mithril rather than just smelt (smelting only would allow about double proffit). When I train melee, I try to do it on monsters where I can sell the drops. There are a couple exceptions. I play BA and CW knowing full well I am not going to get any money or experiance, but I hardly ever play CW and some of teh BA rewards are useful for somethign money related in teh long run. Ultimatly, the money is actualy for skilling. When training I sometimes use a slow profitable method ot make money, then use the money to finance a much faster method that costs money. Also, the money gained in one skill can go to another. I do kill for alot of things. Herbs and runes are cheif things I aqire through combat (especially law, fire and nature runes). I dont use many potions so I rarely buy them. The only potions I keep stock of tend to be prayer, anti-poison, and a couple restores. I can make all these myself (mind you not super restores). Basicly yes, I kill for many of my commodities (mithril ore, iron ore, all herbs, fire runes, law runes and nature runes are the main ones). Zaaps1
Idk what you're talking about with waterfiends and snape grass on my last task of 135 I got 0 snape grass drops. I'd doubt Infernal Mages get you around 2k deaths per hour, otherwise they would be way overcrowded. The time it takes for you to craft all your own runes/get all your own p ess/etc., however, usually undermines the money you'd save. Honestly, it's probably better to buy all the everyday items you need and then use the time you save to make the money back using your best money-making method. On that note, some methods where you might be "losing" money at first glance, you might actually be MAKING a ton of cash. A prime example is cannoning slayer tasks. On dagannoths I can save easily over an hour. Is that 1 hour worth about 200k in cballs? Well if I can make 600-700k an hour, by cannoning dagannoths I'm actually MAKING money, 400-500k in fact. On topic now: Well it's not really faster in any way, but I find a load of sand, battlestaves, and maple logs in my bank from my daily activities. Activities which probably cost me only a few minutes per day. ~It's Super Effective!
