Stuck in a Rut

Serpent Eye

Recommended Posts

I first started playing RS around 2001, I believe, and am a great lover of the game.

However, lately, I find that whenever I log in, I get bored after about five minutes or so. On the odd day, I'll power through one or two quests, and then log out shortly afterwards. If I am ever logged on for a greater period of time, it's spent staring at my banked items, or standing around in G. E. looking at the prices of random items.

I fear that I'm stuck in a nasty rut!

I was hoping that someone might have fun suggestions on how to keep the game fresh! I really don't like combat too much; I enjoy working on skills far better. My stats are in my signature, and as you might be able to see, none of them is too high. I usually work on one skill for about half-an-hour, and move on to another one. (I honestly don't see how people can work one one skill for hours upon hours.)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I'm going crazy staring at my bank!!

Thank you!

Slayer can bring a lot of variety to your RS life. Try that, it'll also help you train your combat skills, which is always fun. ::'

I found myself in that position very recently. Train some skills, fight iron/steel dragons, set a goal.

That helped me get back into the game.

Thanks :] I have done Slayer for a while, but like I said earlier, I'm not the biggest fan of combat... but I'll give it a go again, thanks!

What did you like before? New minigames are out, and I find those enjoyable.

Well, I really enjoy farming. It's really relaxing to me. And I just recently got into Hunter, which is pretty fun for me. As far as mini-games, I've tried Star hunting a few times, and it's really fun. The only problem for me is, most of my RS friends have stopped playing, and I'm down to about one >.> I don't really have a circle of friends who go out and do CW, etc.

At least I'm not alone! Thank you! I've tried setting a goal for getting 99 in a skill, but 1) I can't decide which skill, and 2) it's such a daunting task >_<

Thanks, everyone!

Seriously, don't go for a 99. They're pointless at your level, and when i tried to get my fletching to 99, I got bored at 71 and gave up entirely. Also, forget what i said about metal dragons. Your stats aren't high enough.

I've also been playing RS for many years intermittently. I generally spend more time playing other mmos but always come back to RS during my down periods in the other games. There are times I actually feel overwhelmed with so many skills to work on yet can't force myself to do anything but check my bank and read forums.

As others have stated, slayer is a good one. I do it not so much for xp but for variety and a change of scenery. It forces me to go out and explore and see monsters and areas I otherwise wouldn't and it's a fun challenge for someone like me who also isn't big into combat.

I think what keeps me interested most though is reading the forums at various sites and learning new, more effective training methods to try. I wanted to get smithing up for a quest but dreaded the tedious hours I would have to devote to it. Reading the suggestions of other players has given me so many options to switch up when I get bored with one and that really makes it a lot easier to work on skills that I find very monotonous.

I do tend to spend most of my time playing alone also :? The age difference is sometimes an issue although I have met a few really good young people that I still hear from occasionally to this day. Feel free to add me for company while skilling, etc.

Thank you all for the additional suggestions!

I gave a go at Slayer, and had some fun for a while... sadly, I got bored after I finished killing 93 Ogres, only to have Vannaka tell me to go kill 63 more >.> I finished it still, and then got assigned Pyrefiends. I'll get around to them eventually... I've never fought one before, so I don't know what to expect from them. :?

I also said "What the heck!" to myself and bought a Dragon axe, and I've been working on my WC and FM recently. It's a nice change from things.

I have recently been having more fun due somewhat to the fact that my friend and I have been playing on our F2P PKers in PvP worlds. I honestly have PKed once or twice since discovering RS in 2001, so I never really knew what PKing was like. And it's quite fun, even if F2P characters are somewhat limited compared to members. It was also really nice to do all of the F2P quests again. We (my friend and I) were both flooded with memories of when we first started out playing, and it really reminded me of why I love the game so much!

Again, thank you all for the suggestions!
