cookiestealer222
I have been playing off/on since 2001 and have seen many price trends around the holidays. A few years ago prices of santas and masks would shoot up before their respected holidays, only to crash the next day. Then players began to cash out a few weeks prior to the holiday. I would normally sell at the begging of the month and wait until prices bottomed out before going back in. However, since the advent of the GE and the decimation of value for discontinues, I was wondering how others felt about new trends. Prices in masks haven't changed much prior to Oct 31st, so maybe it will repeat the trend of several years and shoot up instead of crashing. Of course we have lost the large fluctuations of items due to the new system.
obfuscator
I doubt that there will be any major fluctuations. "It's not a rest for me, it's a rest for the weights." - Dom Mazzetti
Ryuuka
is it just me or does this topic always come up around the holidays and the answer is always the same... yes the price will rise, no not much, and stop making these threads! Punitive_D
This particular topic has not be posted at this time of year before because we didn't have the GE before. I would expect that the GE would cause prices to remain more stable. Prices move drastically when it's impossible to buy or sell. The GE makes the market more efficient so that it's almost always possible to buy or sell. Still, prices of all holiday items are up right now. I've sold everything already. I'll buy again after the holidays. Btw, to the original poster, don't be discouraged by the rantings of those who wish they could think about this topic but can't afford the items. tintin113
I don't play the rares market at all, but though I doubt it will go up to the same extent as id did before the GE, rares will probably still increase in price - the GE lessens the speed at which things rise, but doesn't stop it. Obtaurian
Well you see, it all goes back to logs. Woodcutters gather yews to pay for Santas, which always ???? around Christmas time. If all the woodcutters are LOL elsewhere, what's the Santa for? 1. Buy yews 2. Sell after Christmas 3. ???? 4. Profit! To put it bluntly, [bleep] off. hohto
Comparing party hats and santas near the christmas is like comparing the price of cars and bikes. They got big similarities, such as being discontinued, but they are too separate things to be compared. - There's enough market power to move the santa hat price up and down. Due the limited market power phats are doomed to stay at their price until Jagex manually adjusts them. Just compare the curve between a phat to other phats and then to santa hats. The phat curves are almost carbonpaper copies, the santa lives its own life. - With santa's price and certain link to the christmas, it can't be compared to phats which are affortable by only few and which aren't directly linked to any special event. A huge number of rs players can afford santas and there actually is the belief that they can rise towards the christmas. If there's enough belief, the santa will rise. My own belief is that santas are taking a small (staying under 20 million gp per if there's no big scale manipulation) jump somewhere around mid december and then falling few days before christmas. I base my assumption on: * There's still quite a few who believe it will rise. This increases the demand and decreases supply -> small jump in the price. * That jump boosts the belief on uncertain ones and the circle is ready. * Eventually the crash happens a bit before christmas when people decide to play sure and dump santas when they're high enough. This leads to the situation where most investors are forced to sell and thus drop it even more. That same pattern has happened on last few christmasses and I don't see why wouldn't it happen now. There's enough marketpower to actually get a nice number of investors, there's an easy way to measure the "right" price and there's more people with the proper amount of gp to invest on them as certain updates have made it easier to make money and there's currently no real competition between them and phats. I'd rather die for what I believe in than live for anything else.Name Removed by Administrator ~Turtlefemm
raistlin
I feel like discontinued items are far less of an issue in Runescape these days. Because of the creation of the G.E. the famous world 2 Falador Garden market instantaneously disappeared. This is where it was cool to show off your really expensive and rare items. Now that there isn't one place that a large amount of people gather in Runescape anymore I believe it is far less appealing to have a rare other than for investment sake. Infi
I personally think that the rare prices will sky rocket. Why? Because of the ash market. People daily burn logs and the the ashes left behind are collected and used in Serum 207. People use those potions to gain herblore levels, mainly for Saradomin Brews. They make the brews, and then sell it to those who monster hunt. They get a drop and have enough money to fund rares, and thus buy alot of rares and increase the price. Stock up now, it's very clear what's happening. 99 Hits, Attack, Strength, Defence, Mage, Summoning, Slayer, Ranged, 96/99 Prayer
