Anti Wannabe Mods

Featured Replies

This has been bugging me for some time, but around most forums I've seen, people seem to flame those who try to maintain a form of order. As most people know, Moderators aren't on 24/7 and they can't get to every thread, so when a normal poster explains why the thread is in the wrong location or when it might get locked, they're instantly dubbed a wannabe mod and are flamed to the ends of the earth. I used to shrug this off, but it's now starting to bug me when people say "+1, this thread is so locked" and no one seems to care, but when they give an adequate reason, all hell breaks loose. What I fear is that, if real life were anything like this, a citizens arrest would just be laughed at, more than it is now.

Amen, brother.

Actually, 'wannabe mods' is a rather stupid phrase - almost every runescape player would want to be a mod, if given the chance, except those 'already mods' who moan and complain about how much trouble that crown gives them. I certainly would; I can name countless times where muting some person for a couple of days would be indescribably handy.

And yes, although some people take it overboard, maintaining a semblance of order doesn't make you a moron.

I've never seen this happen but why does it bug you? I say, if you're not the one getting flamed, just go along with your business.

And @ compfreak, I think he was talking about forum mods.... :-s

Hello friend, Senajitkaushik was epic, Good luck bro.

I know, I was expanding his rant, as I've found the 'rs mod' sentiment even more like that then the 'forum mod'. Although my views are exactly the same for both.

so when a normal poster explains why the thread is in the wrong location or when it might get locked

That's the thing, if a thread is at the wrong place, you're supposed to report it, not post on it. So when someone posts going all omg this post is at the wrong place you should be ashamed of yourselves, then that comes off as really hypocritical. But when people posting stuff like

"+1, this thread is so locked"

everyone knows they're just spamming for the heck of it, unlike wanna-be mods who take themselves so seriously and only come off as attention-seeking hypocrites.

Because seriously, you're not supposed to post on these threads, so serious wanna-be mods won't post, you will never hear about them. But if you feel the need to brag about how much of a kiss-[wagon] you are by posting a lenghtly and unecessary explanation as to why the thread should be locked, that screams attention-seeking A LOT.

2480+ total

wow this almost classifies as a double negative

it's okay to post "this should be in section blah..." if you're also going to answer / reply to the topic with relevance, but it's not okay to just post to get across the point when you could have reported

actually ur wrong. I would never be a mod in runescape if given the chance. Your modsmanship gives players a whole new respect for u. I would want to be treated like everyone else. Its like being a copper. Citizens and friends r hiding from u what illegal things they r doing.

Friends aren't going to break rules around you; a regular player reporting them would still work. However, everyone else is going to be nicer - not exactly a bad thing? And for those few people that you would normally put on ignore, a mute would work wonders.

* You got the report button. With it you can drag the attention of actual moderators.

* Feeding a troll is not nice. The troll grows from the food.

* I personally don't see any point in saying "stop spamming" or "wrong forum!". A normal user got next to no power to affect to the other side so you're basically wasting your time. It's a different situation when (possible) keylogger links are being posted, tho.

* It seems to me that these wannabe mods are usually doing it for themselves only. I don't see how a oneliner would help anyone (usually work works vica versa) who decides to read the topic. When we go for RS, I find it funny how some wannabe mods are trying to warn about things that aren't even reportable.

However, everyone else is going to be nicer - not exactly a bad thing?

Had to come to this. I've personally been a pmod for over 3 years and I know it from my own experience that what you're saying is only half of the truth.

- There's plenty of players who have a total hatred towards mods due false mutes.

- Too many people are trying to lick up you with stuff like "you're the best!" or so. I don't know about that but I find it funny how people are complete jerks while I'm not talking and once I talk their behaviour changes.

- You have to answer to the same questions over and over again. It becomes boring and irritating after some time.

- People got false beliefs of you: no I don't know where's every single npc, I maybe don't want to lead to you to the coordinant location while I'm training and no, you can't lend my whip if I'm using it.

Being a pmod has its advantages and I wouldn't want to get rid of it now, but people tend to have weird beliefs on it. People don't become nicer to you, they either are scared of you, hate you or they wanna benefit from it. Being genuinely nice to you doesn't change wether do you have the crown or not.

I'd rather die for what I believe in than live for anything else.

Well said. =D>

It all depends on who you interact with. Some people are jerks, some are not. Some are nice, some are not. The world works in this way.
