im1knight
My computer was brought around 8 months ago. It came with vista, and i'm pretty happy about it. But recently i'm having some problem with frame rates when playing Microsoft Flight Simulator X. So i decided if XP will do better. My question is, my FSX is installed on drive E, and vista is installed on drive C, and D is for HP recovery. Drive E and drive C+D are 2 different hard drives. I'm thinking of cut out another part of the drive E for XP installation. But when i install XP, can i run the game directly from XP? Or do i have to install FSX in the drive where XP is installed again? I need to know this so i will know how much space i have to cut out.. If not, is there a way to make it work? sloter
You can try but i bet you will have to reinstall it it. I say that because some of the stuff is different with Vista including DX10.
Denismage
I'm confident it will work. From my personal experience - the only game that didn't work for me when I switched to Vista was BF2, and that was because it couldn't find a CD Key (Which is stored in the registry)

D. V. Devnull
erm...but how do i make FSX show up on the program list in XP? I have two questions before I can even make any kind of attempt at answering that, seeing as no one else answered it already. Can you read the drive/partition that FSX is on while you're in Windows XP? Also, can you read the OS partition for Vista itself, while in XP? :?: ~D. V. The only reason im asking this is cuz i don't wanna give a part part of the HD to XP if it's not necessary, if i need to reinstall FSX, i'll probably give 50GB, if not, then most likely 15GB Quit runescape on Jan 6th of 2008, at level of 115 with around 150M worth of item in bank...however stats still remainsWorld 59, the world i loved~ Now 95% dedicated to playing Microsoft flight simulator http://www.youtube.com/user/im1knightmy youtube channel with many FSX videos i made. please leave a comment if you will

Can you tell us what File System (FAT32/NTFS/etc.) that the current FSX is installed on? Even if I'm not the first to come up with the answer to your problem, answers to questions like these will help in finding the solution. :-s It won't run much better if the hardware is still the same. Possibly quite to the contrary. Some systems are better-suited to running certain things on an XP core than they are on a Vista core. To which, they will perform better on XP instead of Vista. im1knight
It's NTFS, 7200rpm, 360GB. I have 2 HDs, they r the exact same thing i installed FSX on the second one. i have FSX with acceleration, which have server pack 3 included. Oh, and another problem, i just made a new part of my HD for XP, but then it give me a blue screen when it finished checking all the drivers. When the " Welcome to windows XP setup" screen is supposed to come up, it give me a blue screen instead. It didn't say anything about where the problem is, like a normal BSOD will do, it just give me this: 0x0000007B( 0xF78D2524, Oxc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) Quit runescape on Jan 6th of 2008, at level of 115 with around 150M worth of item in bank...however stats still remainsWorld 59, the world i loved~ Now 95% dedicated to playing Microsoft flight simulator http://www.youtube.com/user/im1knightmy youtube channel with many FSX videos i made. please leave a comment if you will
Mamong
Google is your friend for BSoD codes. Check here and here as they have the same stop code as you, with the same symptoms. Also Microsoft has a KB article on this stop code also which may help. Look here [Tip.It Mod][Retired][Add your Steam name here!]

I have already contacted HP support, but the steps they told me was exactly what i did. But it just won't work on mine. the " Windows professional setup" screen won't come up... I have tried the disc on my laptop which runs on XP already, and it worked fine. So i guess theres something wrong with my computer.. that stop code is normally a code of hard ware or device problem according to microsoft. But HP told me my computer's hardware and drivers are totally capable of running XP... So i'm all confused now and idk where to start to solve this problem... I got proof of what Devnull is saying. My desktop for example, had Windows XP when I installed it. I always had trouble with Windows XP on it, then when I installed Vista, only a few days ago, it worked a miracle! Even without SP1 I had no bugs and no problems at all, whereas with XP I kept on crashing and all that [cabbage]. Guess my PC was made for Vista and that HP put XP on it to save money :S. Alright, so we have a problem before we can even get close to finishing up linking FSX to WinXP... While I was not encouraging dropping XP in (I was saying to hold off, as per my last post) just yet, I must now ask the following questions because you tried it and didn't have good luck... What model of HP (Or possibly Compaq, if it is such?) computer do you happen to have, and what further specs can you provide to us from Vista's information? Also, prior to your attempt to install WinXP, was there any possibility of a virus on your system? And was there any special hardware you had in place, such as a SATA drive? BTW, as it stands, all the initial indicators I'm seeing on the web are pointing at SATA issues, so down below is a couple more articles to read... Sadly, I do not fully know at the moment if these will help. :| http://www.windowsbbs.com/hardware/72538-bsod-crash-during-xp-install.html http://news.softpedia.com/news/Install-Windows-XP-On-SATA-Without-a-Floppy-F6-47807.shtml Also, here's the search I ran which led me to those... It may be the same search that Mamong ran, but I don't know... http://www.google.com/search?num=30&hl=en&q=0x0000007B+%280xF78D2524%2C+Oxc0000034%2C+0x00000000%2C+0x00000000%29&btnG=Search ~D. V. Sbrideau
Oh, and I forgot to say, if you want to install XP on dual boot, you're going to have trouble making them both work, since normally you have to put the older OS before. That's how Microsoft OSes work. You can make it work, but you're going to have a hard time doing so. Also, there's a chance that your hardware has been made for Vista and not tested for XP. im1knight
well...i got a good news and a bad news... the good news is : I finally got XP installed ! the bad news is: Well....for some reason i don't know.. Vista can only seem to boot under RAID mode, and XP can only boot under IDE mode...so everytime i wanna switch OS, i have to change the Bios setting....If i dont, it will just give me a BSOD and thats the end of it... Is there any ways to fix this? Yes, there may be one... Provide WinXP with the driver files needed to operate in RAID mode, then switch the system back into RAID mode, and it should detect everything and boot right. At least, that's assuming the info in those links I gave earlier is correct. However, before trying, BACKUP YOUR COMPUTER!!! I will not be at fault for a ruined WinXP installation, or anything that damages Vista, when making a backup will allow you to just set time back to where it was before you began this process... :ugeek: ~D. im1knight
OK, i spoke to HP support again, and they told me how to put a RAID driver into XP disc, and now i can dual boot my XP and vista normally under RAID. I reinstalled FSX on the new XP part of the drive, but however, the XP system seems to be having trouble remembering my configuration in FSX... everytime i restart the computer and start the game, everything is back to default, like i just installed the game.. Okay, have you turned off Vista's "System Restore Monitor" for the Drive Letter where it sees WinXP? And have you told WinXP to not monitor Vista's home partition? Just a hunch, but that may be what's causing your problems. :anxious: ... I would get a confirm from someone else who is monitoring this thread before changing the settings on those, however. :| Although, wait...
