November 6, 200817 yr Alot of people say that magic is at a disadvantage against melee because meleers can just put on some range armor. However, you really can't compare the two because that would be comparing a hybrid to someone with just 1 style. If you are maging and your opponent puts on d'hide, bring out a melee or ranged weapon to even the scales, maybe even swap armors yourself. Anyway, when a mage is against a meleer in melee armor(e.g. full rune) said meleer is at a severe disadvantage if the mage has any idea what they are doing. The quest points in the stat pic above this message is wrong, disregard it.Yeah, everyone loves me!
November 6, 200817 yr I agree that magic is mostly a secondary skill. I've got level 99 myself, and I'm very proud of my cape : But what I use magic for mostly, has to be the teleporting around Runescape and barrows. As is said before, there is one complete skill-help secondary skill spellbook, lunar :P Also in pvp magic is most useful when used with melee or ranged, as is also said before. So I can't say I don't agree with the statement that Magic is mostly a secondary skill. dragon drops: 2h, Med (x4), spear (x3), legs (x3), skirt, left halfbarrow drops: 45+ GWD drops: 1x steam, 1x bandos plate, 1x tasset, 4x shardproud owner of the Quest Cape since March 28th 2008 - [554/555 songs unlocked]99 cooking on April 5th 200899 magic on June 29th 2008 Dog to 100% (full grown) at 2nd day of Summoning! :)
November 7, 200817 yr I would say secondary. There's even an entire spellbook devoted to secondary activities - Lunar - and people will use vengeance and then just carry on hitting their enemies with a godsword. In clans you get rangers and mages working together, and the mages know that the enemies will most likely switch to dhide, but then the rangers can kill them without running away. It's far too easy to swap to Dhide to avoid being hurt by mages, and mages don't have any decent defence against either rangers or meleers. That's for sure  now lets see, melee has good defence against range, range has good defence against mage, mage is MEANT to have good defence against melee but it has didly squat defence, and in the meantime magers get owned by both range AND melee. I think of mage as a secondary skill as the only use of it now to me is teleporting and alching, and i'm 99 mage. I think I would train mage further than 99 IF it didn't cost me anything. Look at melee, once you buy the weapon of your choice, you don't need to keep on paying to get experience (unless it's barrows or PVP weapons of course) but take the whip for example, it costs to buy at first, yes, but then you can get tons of exp for free. With mage you HAVE to spend money to get exp, there's no doubt about it, same with range. Maybe if you got 90 mage and completed some uber duber quest you could buy a staff for like 10M (would high alch for, say, 30k, making it an easy target for PKers if you were to use one) and it would have infinite air, water, fire and earth runes - and for every other rune you want to be infinite, you'd have to add 100K of that type of rune into the staff. That way bloods, deaths, natures etc. will still always be in demand (with new people coming in and training mage etc.) and the fact that you'd need 100K of that particular rune, which would be about 27.5M just for infinite bloods! But anyway, this would make people train magic more often and make it somewhat a skill. Also robes in general should have a massive melee defence bonus, as the combat triangle works with range and melee with their appropriate defences but mage can be owned by both range and melee which is unfair, and i'm a melee person! A bow with unlimited mithril arrows wouldn't hurt either =D would have to have big requirements of course
November 7, 200817 yr Magic is definitely secondary to me. I hardly ever use it to actually kill some one, but Mugi could be right, if you use Ancients properly you could use it as a primary.
November 7, 200817 yr I think mage is a very important part of Pking but it can only be used with another combat style, because it is very easy for people to protect from mage and/or use d'hide. so the best would be melle/mage i think.
November 9, 200817 yr Well you need to think about this in two ways. Members or free-to-play. Of course many will argue in free-to-play that magic is only good for teleportation and that the combat capabilities are severely limited. Where as in members has a full range of attacks that are very devastating that they would consider more of a primary attack. You can see from the old mage bank player killing to the bounty hunter mini game that Ancients dominated these two areas, but in my opinion i do believe that magic is primary skill.
November 9, 200817 yr Another thing that seems to have been overlooked are runes. For one thing, at least initially, they were worth far more than the ammunition for rangers. Plus, they're always consumed. But the real kick in the pants for runes is that they take up a minimum of one inventory space, if you cast air strike spells with an air staff. Two to three spaces is the norm for inventory usage, however. So this means that any mage will have, at least, one less piece of food or potion than a warrior or ranger. If the CORPORAL beast is this hard, imagine how hard a GENERAL or COLONEL beast would be. a corporal is not even an admirable rank in armies that use that ranking system. Yeah, it is a pking minigame, so any arguments anybody makes will probably be biased. The best way this will end :Everybody just says,"I'm not arguing with you anymore, goodbye."The worst way this will end: I don't really know, psychological warfare? Worldwide thermonuclear war? Pie eating contest?
November 9, 200817 yr I rarely just take magic, I bring a dds or some melee weapon since of the cb. triangle. I can only bring melee b/c prayers can also help me have the upper hand even if there's the triangle. I can never only bring range unless it's crystal because I feel the urge to pick up my arrows which distracts me from the fight. Kinda off topic...but yeah, If I ancient, I gotta have a dds or whip with me. It's just so simple to switch to dds, pull off 3/4 specs and still ancient them. 99 Fletch~~99 WC~~79/81 Fishing87/94 Magic~~84 RangeEtha! Saradomin Forever~CWCB: 107 Total: 1788+ON BREAK
