Will Russia ever be accepted a'la Germany

Featured Replies

there are a lot of old, southern people who do not agree (sorry, another huge generalisation)

Nope, I hail from Texas. Yeap.

And there really isn't that much craziness surrounding all that.

Get back here so I can rub your butt.

Wow it seems that alot of the tif community is insanly ignorant about anything but USA and it's political position.

First off, have you ever been to Russia? No? May be if you have, you'd know that the climate is very close (excpet for up north but who goes there?) to Canada. Canadians, does it not annoy you when people assume that it's -20 in Canada and everyone lives in Iglus? Yea one word to those people: Ignorant. Dont talk about something you don't know, I'm sure if I said that all Americans are Over weight lazy people, and their school system is equavilent to grade.8 Russian school system, you wouldn't like that very much. (although it's true about the school.)

Second it seems that alot of you are under the impression that Russia is still communist? And Americans only eat McDonalds? Stereotypes, how about you look into the subject before making yourself look like a fool? Eh?

Third, I sure hope you were joking about Russia being unapealing/ unvisited, ugly or whatever else, because it's definatelly one of the most beautiful and interesting countries in the world.

This whole debate feels like a high-school drama scene: Everyone is talking about you, but what their talkign about is complete rumor bullshet. And you're thinking wtf, ok there.

Edit: What do you mean, accepted? For what, cold war? LOL.

Better question is, will USA ever be accepted for starting wars with 2 countries, 20X smaller then it and keep them going for years after? With no aparent reason?

Those igloo folk get angry.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

Wait wait wait, back up..you don't live in Igloos in Canada?

When you think of culture or "wow I'd like to visit there" does Russia really ever pop in to mind? It's very unique country, but not really in a great way.

Yes. And a few others have said yes as well. Point invalidated.

That's like saying "Other than seeing all of Northern and Western Canada, that nation does not appeal to me."

Yes it exactly is. What is the point in visiting a country if it doesn't appeal to you? I'd like to see Siberia, but I wouldn't go to Russia really for anything else.

Can you tell me what exactly there is to do in Kenya, and why so many people fly out to see it every year? Surely if Kenya gained loads of tourism despite having no real landmarks, so would Russia, and it does.

There's plenty of things to do in Russia. Most of it is wasteland but the area around St. Petersburg and Moscow is worth visiting. If you truly want to understand Russian and Soviet history, go to those cities. Far from the popular perception that most people despise Lenin for the fact he was a communist, you might actually realise a lot of Russians recognise Lenin for moving them away from the oppression of Tsardom. You might also learn from that why Russians feel comfortable with having a fairly one-sided democratic process.

Russia stands on the faultline of ideological politics. If you can't see anything worth seeing from that, that's really your problem, not theirs.
