pinguimmaiden
I need 138k fire bolt spells to get 94 magic, using tip calc., but i can make this number downs... I know i get the spell xp + hit xp every cast, so my questions are: 1-)What would be average xp per cast(maybe 50-60?)? 2-)How many steel i can kill with 100k casts? And how many irons? 3-)How many hp xp i might get? Thanks
ladycai
You're 89 mage, I hope you're using Ahrims? 1-)What would be average xp per cast(maybe 50-60?)? Actually each cast is around 20xp. 2-)How many steel i can kill with 100k casts? And how many irons? You can kill about 5 irons in the time for 3 steels. I spend about 1-2k on tasks of 60 monsters, but I go from steel-iron so I can't say exactly. Usually 20 casts per. 3-)How many hp xp i might get? Splashing makes it hard to approximate. 95/99 Summoning95/99 Slayer [hide=This is what you look like when you play RS too long][/hide]

ladycai
When I started maging metals, I was around that level. IT takes somewhere from 30-50 casts, so I recommend you actually do that 5% or 15% defense lowering spell (it ACTUALLY HELPS) Don't take the calc's number of 138k casts because this is the number you need if you bounce every hit. 95/99 Summoning95/99 Slayer [hide=This is what you look like when you play RS too long][/hide]
pinguimmaiden
You got almost 99 magic just there? And i know, i think i will need only 100-110k casts ;)
ladycai
Of course not, I started massive alching at level 82. But I got about a third the xp to 99 via combat spells. 95/99 Summoning95/99 Slayer [hide=This is what you look like when you play RS too long][/hide]

Ladycai sorry to seem mean but you didnt really tell him anything here, and what you did say was mostly wrong. First thing is that the tip it calc is actually assuming an average hit around 34 I believe. I calced that 84-94 magic is 212.9k fire bolts if every hit splashed. With an average hit of 35 it is 136.9k fire bolts. 1) The average exp per cast while wearing ahrims is around 35, this is an average hit of 6.25 and it varies very little between 84 and 99 magic. 2) You shouldn't even really consider maging steels as they will make your average hit plumet and time spent killing dragons will be increased for no additional profit (the extra casts you spend to kill the steels will not make their slightly better drops worth it). Stick to irons, if you get a steel dragon attacking you kill it, but don't go out of your way just to kill steel. Assuming the average hit of 6.25, each iron dragon has 165 hitpoints, meaning that it would be 26.4 casts on average per dragon. Since it takes a bit of time to kill each dragon they will heal a few hitpoints each, so round that up to 27 casts per dragon on average. This means with 136.9k casts (divided by 27 casts per dragon) you will kill approximately 5,070 Iron Dragons. 3) Since my number of the average hit (6.25) is quite accurate seeing as I have done over 200k fire bolts there myself, you can also assume the hp estimate will be quite close. With 136.9k fire bolts each hitting an average of 6.25, and each damage is 1.3333 hitpoints experience you will get around 1,140,000 hitpoints xp. ladycai
Raaawwwrrr My brain is fried today. Usually I saw big differences between the amounts of XP i get per cast because I only looked at total xp, not xp counting just splashing (plus the hit) There is that 0.001% chance of a draconic visage when dealing with metals, so I think that's why she's considering using them for experience to 94. I know I said 1-2k for 60 dragons, and that's actually a very wide range ... :x 95/99 Summoning95/99 Slayer [hide=This is what you look like when you play RS too long][/hide]

Also for your assumption of 1-2k casts it isn't that wide. The real answer would be approximately 1,620 casts for 60 Iron Dragons which is right in the middle of your guesses. Howdydee2003
If i remember right, i was getting an average 56.5 exp per fire bolt cast with chaos gloves. And i actually maged from 83-99 mage only on steels. Sorry to say with dragon legs so low, Youll lose alot of money doing this.... I actually made a good 28 mil profit getting 99 mage there. highlanders
It takes 200-300 casts of fire bolt to kill a dragon. 2480+ total
Novax3
It takes 200-300 casts of fire bolt to kill a dragon. Wtf? Wut? Are you maging mithril dragons with a 50 mage? I'm only lvl 74 and the last time I attempted killing metals with like 65-70 magic, it took me about 55-70 casts to kill an iron/steel, I don't know where you got the ridiculous amount of 200-300 casts. There is no way that you were getting that much exp. Each hour you can do just over 1k casts per hour, and I was getting roughly 35k per hour. If it was the same speed as alching basically, a lot more people would do it.

pinguimmaiden
So, alching is better then do this?
highlanders
Not really. Alching can become very boring. Killing dragons requires attention, and it's a bit bothersome, but you get some decent drops, drag legs/skirt at the very least. 2480+ total
ladycai
YES ALCHING IS BETTER. The only profit you can get by bolting dragons is the POSSIBILITY of a visage and HP xp. 95/99 Summoning95/99 Slayer [hide=This is what you look like when you play RS too long][/hide]
