The_Fray
The first day Runescape HD came out I was extremely excited and couldnt wait to try it out. The first day I used it, I was lagging pretty bad and concluded that since this it was just the beta realease, there were a whole lot of bugs to fix. After it was declared that the version was out of Beta and now available to free players I decided to try it again, only to be disappointed by the lag again. I convinced myself then that I really wasnt missing much and I was happy with standard detail. Up until recently I really didnt give too much thought about it until I saw a pretty cool screenshot and it reminded me of what I am missing. So my question is what can I do to run the HD version of runescape. Here is a bit of info that I think should help you, sorry I am extremely new at computers so please take that into consideration when you provide me with suggestions. Sbrideau
What graphics chip/card does it have, (display tab of dxdiag). Where can I find this? In the win circle (or start if you like) you just have to type "dxdiag" withouth the quotes and press enter. It should pop right up. Earpy
The easiest thing to do would be to type "dxdiag" into the start menu, press enter. At the top of the window, there will be 5 or so tabs. Click on the "Display" tab, take a screenshot (crop if you want), upload it and post it on here. ;)
lordkafei
DirectX diagnostics won't really help, because Runescape depends on OpenGL (so it can run on all platforms, not just Windows). You need to download something called the OpenGL Extensions Viewer. Here's a link, or you can Google for a source you trust. Tell us what version your system has. I know from personal experience that the Microsoft GDI OpenGL driver is a software emulation and will not run HD. I have seen versions as low as 1.5 run Runescape HD partially. My current card supports 2.1 and has no problems. D. V. Devnull
If they need something super-simple, they can also try this... http://www.rasterwerks.com/game/tool/swdiag.htm ...which happens to be a tool that can be used to quickly learn about their graphics card through their shockwave installation... All they have to do is tell the applet to force OpenGL mode via the right-click menu in the applet, and there's the info, which they can then screenshot and post up for viewing... And yes, I can certify it to be 100% safe and free, as I have used it multiple times myself to remind myself of limits on PCs I use... :geek: Sure, I've got dxdiag... But for some reason, it hangs occasionally, and makes me wait 15 minutes (Even though these PCs I use are clean!!!) to get all the info... BTW, don't take the thread off-topic because I mentioned this... ~Mr. D. V. "At least that's a spare option..." Devnull and normally with a cool mind.(Warning: This user can be VERY confusing to some people... And talks in 3rd person for the timebeing due to how insane they are... Sometimes even to themself.) lordkafei
I have 1.4, so i guess I have a problem, is there any way I can change this? Unfortunately, probably not. If there's no hardware support, nothing you can tweak will make any difference. For reference, here's a table of GMA graphics cores which shows what OpenGL level each supports. Sorry, I wish I had better news. GutenMornig
so unless you have a the right openGL thing there's nothing you can do to change the way runescape will run?

lordkafei
Replacing the entire computer isn't necessary. If you can add a video card to your system and disable the onboard graphics, that would be the route to go. Preferably a card that supports OpenGL 2.0. But I wasn't suggesting he change the GPU. I realize it's soldered to the mobo. But there is a chance he has an empty MXM slot (ref: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Upgrade-Replace-a-Notebook-Video-Card.3236.0.html. But MXM isn't widely used, only very few got it (unfortunately). He could search his laptop model and see if it has or call the support. But i doubt it. It's a good computer otherwise, if it would have a decent gpu on it, it would be a pretty good laptop for gaming.
