Skills that most need updating

Firemaking

Cooking

Mining

1. Firemaking has no benefits of getting a higher level except from being able to burn more money.

2. New ways to cook perhaps, maybe a cooking based minigame?

3. Just simply boring, really needs spicing up, and more incentives to get a higher level except from Rune Mining which just sucks :|

I dont really understand why jagex dont do a major update to make firemaking usefull. They add some minigame which is mostly there to get more xp in the useless skill, yet dont really come up with something to make it usefull. And there are loads of great ideas (some of these arent mine ofcourse):

- Burning down thick vegetation for shortcuts

- Scaring away small creatures with fire (torches)

- Fires giving some sort of a restoration effect when near them (quicker stat restoration, and maybe even small stat boosts) to simulate warming up at a fire

- Furnace heating, making a furnace hotter so less coal is required for smelting

- Signaling certain npcs using smokesignals

- Setting arrows on fire, to let them deal extra (fire) damage

- Duration of fires determined by the type of log

- Better cooking rates with higher quality fires

- Setting logs on fire without tools (at a higher level ofcourse), real firemakers can use wood on wood to make fire.

- Adding logs to a fire to reset the duration and give you some xp (so big lines of fires arent neccesary)

- Small bushes to be set on fire across runescape, so you wont need logs for a fire at some spots.

- Burning down thick vegetation with a chance of discovering small (metal) objects in them.

Those are some pretty good ideas. (Bolded ones I liked most) But I think at lvl 99 fm (me ::' ) You should be able to make fires without a tinderbox because I don't think lvl 100 fm would be much of an extra level like it is in cooking... I mean what does it do? And they need to update some of the skill cape emotes... badly.

mining ~ just mining the same ores? and wat for? for smithing. but smithing isnt great :|

smithing ~ hard to make money from and simply pointless. u need too high of a level to smith rune which can just be gotten from a monster drop. so its not good.

fm ~ make some king of use for it.

I just have one thing to add to this discussion. Most of you who have been playing for a long time have noticed that certain skills and strategies have become less worthwhile than before. The best example of this is Prayer with the Ectofunctus vs. the Gilded Altar. It's called power creep(look it up if you need a better explanation - in a few words it's just things getting better, so they have to make new updates better to make them worthwhile). Take this into mind when you are criticizing or suggesting things to Jagex. Also, try to look from their side when you suggest things. For instance, someone suggested being able to burn down full cities when you reach level 99 firemaking. However, when you think about it from their side there really is no point for them to do this. It would take them a long time to program this, or else no one would bother with it. If they did program it well, people would do it once or twice, and then be like, "hai coolzorz. whail, 99 str here i come". In a nutshell: power creep, and usefulness versus difficulty when programming.

Woodcutting needs UN-updating xD

I mean, wtf is up with the new chopping action?!

People keep saying mining - I think you need the stupidly hard and boring skills, they make you appreciate the fun, easy skills a lot more. If everything was as easy as cooking or hunter or whatever, you'd be hard-pushed to find something challenging to waste your time on ::'

Dragon pickaxe pl0x.

I also think Firemaking needs to affect combat... Explosive arrows would work for this. And when I mean explosive arrows, I mean attaching explosive powder to your arrows and lighting a fuse. And it would make a bit of sense too, since you will need to having a good understanding of how the fuse burns out... aka a higher firemaking level. You don't want the explosive to go off too soon or too late, so adding a firemaking level in the crafting or just the use of these arrows could work...
