So i got a new Ipod nano for my birthday a few weeks ago, and go figure it cant just all work out wel...

I'm pretty good with comps, but i just cant figure this problem out.

Everytime i plug my ipod into my computer, it doesnt show up in itunes or in my computer...but it does make the little "beep" sound that occurs when you plug something into the usb port.

I honestly cannot figure out how to get it to show up, and its PISSING me off very much...gf birthday gift, all I wanna do is listen to my music   :| :(

any help would be GREATLY appreciated

you mean re-installing it? and what do you mean setting it all up? what is it?

I have the latest version of itunes but it may be missing something i guess

I forgot all about iTunes, but I think you need to somehow register the iPod using a serial code or something before plugging the iPod in.

hmm....i'm not sure if i remembered it correctly. But the first time you plug in the ipod, itunes is supposed to be running. Then Itunes will tell you about it found an ipod, enter the owner's name etc... and then you can do whatever you want with it

Try to un-install and re-install iTunes. Also, make sure you have iTunes opened when you plug it in..

Or..

If it came with a disk, run the disk before you plug it in again..

Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.

iPod don't come with a disk anymore. Just download iTunes off Apple, hook in your iPod, Register, and you away.

Have you tried contacting Apple? They will give you much better advice than anyone on here.

done everything that you all have suggested and nothings worked...i think it might be my computer, any idea whats wrong with it and how to fix it?

Is this a laptop?

Are you using the latest version of iTunes? That might help.

And try reading this. And are you plugging your iPod into a USB Hub (Something like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_hub)? If so, plug it into your computer.

less then a week till i leave town without an ipod :(

Sounds like a problem with your computer, or maybe even your iPod. Try going to a mates house that have an iPod and see if it works there. If it doesn't, and you still have your docket/warranty, take it to the shop you got it from and get a replacement or even a refund if you feel necessary.

Well i'm officially dumbfounded at this point...I've decided that theres nothing wrong with the ipod, and nothing wrong with my computer, the only thing thats wrong is my [bleep]ing luck...

Of course this would happen to me, but anyways, some new info:

-My old ipod works on my CURRENT computer

-My new ipod works on my dad's computer...

like how the hell is that possible? that means that its not my current comp's fault and not my new ipod's fault...

Uhhh I think someone told me a while ago that you can only register one Ipod per computer?

Which would explain why it works on your dad's computer but not your current computer...

But I'm not sure if this is true.

edit: no, this isn't true.

You can have more than one iPod per computer. It doesn't make a difference if they're a shuffle, photo, mini, or regular iPod. I don't know if multiple iPods can be plugged in at the same time.

You cannot use the the same iPod on more than one computer, unless you disable automatic syncing.

Maybe you should try disabling the automatic sync in iTunes (setting it to manual sync).

I have a Classic and a Nano running on my computer, and I have no problems, so there goes that theory.

Apple has excellent customer support, so as Sloter said, try giving them a call. They were always good about helping me. If you don't want to call, try looking for your problem here: http://www.apple.com/support/
