Repel Amulet

Featured Replies

An amulet that causes all monsters non-quest related, and below your lvl to leave you alone.

Yea good idea, lots of miners would mine coal in low level wild without being attacked by skeletons. I can't see many other uses though....still a cool new item easily implemented too. :D

Well the formula for when aggressive monsters stop attacking you is:

Your Combat Level = (Monster's combat level * 2) + 1

So if you're combat 101, anything that's level 50 or below will NOT attack you.

So if this amulet was made, it shouldn't make it so EVERYTHING under you level can't attack you, because it would cause problems for quests, etc...however...if it made it so monsters 3/4 and below your level couldn't attack you, THAT would be acceptable.

So if you're level 100, whilst wearing this amulet, nothing 75 or below can attack you. However...the amulet would also have to give absolutely no bonuses...otherwise it would be too good.

well, that formula is not exactly true.

for example, even at lvl 126, the lvl 6 giant rats all over lvl 2 and lvl 3 wilderniss still attack you.

very annoying it must be for a mage who has set auto-cast on ice barrage and is now wasting 3-4k by casting that 1 spell on a giant rat.

Not a bad idea, as said before this would be useful for low lvls who are mining since monsters would not attack them.

Yea, but not all miners power mine some go to edge bank and when they come back they have to wait another 20 mins for monster to stop attacking.

These rules dont apply for all monsters.

Like giant bats will attack anyone for hours.

These mosnters aren't there to try and kill you, they're meant to be annoying.

Which I personally dont think thats something Jagex should go for without giving a solution.

i do like this idea though (when i read the title i thought you were suggesting a noob-repelling-amulet) when im mining mithril at the hobgolin mine, its kinda annoying to have 100 hobgoblins all standing in a line to attack you.

but they can be a blessing too, when i was fully loaded suddenly i saw a lvl 80 guy (skulled) attacking the hobgolbin that was attacking me (i did not fight back, i was mining). he clearly wanted to stop me fighting those hobgoblins.

but i just attacked another one, slowly walked to the edge of where the hobgoblins go, and ran for my life.

so wearing the amulet would also have its cons, weak aggressive monsters ARE annoying, but they are the best PKer shield you have

Yes, Crim, some monsters are meant to be "annoying," as you say. I think a better word is "unmanageable." However, that's done to provide balance. For example, the wild dogs at the Karamja dungeon prevent rangers from taking the place over. They already had plenty of good training areas when this dungeon was added. I'm sure there are other good examples of this.

So, I'd say no on this ammy, especially if it was meant to repel ALL creatures below your level and if it had any combat bonuses whatsoever. If it was just for some creatures and that's it, then I guess I could see it happening.

Please bear in mind high level dragons that aggressives will still attack you (I mean level 127 or more) right?

You pay no attention at all

Formula for monsters don't attack you:

Your Combat Level = (Monster's combat level * 2) + 1

But some monsters (such as the jail guard that guards Ali) does always aggressive you, no matter what your combat level is. Well, this would just work fine.

Read the 20 minute rule post.

Those are quest related.

Those skeletons in the mining site of the wilderness has absolutley nothing to do with quests.

  • Author

no they dont, so the amulet would work against them should it be implemented.

but it would never work with the jail guards, because they play a role in a quest.

And bubsa, the 20 minute rule does not apply to all NPC's

Then why should there be an amulet to work with these NPCs?

They're there for a reason. Deadly reds to stop camping at rune rocks, Wild Dogs to stop ranger invasions.

For me, I see no problem to be fixed by it.

All your ammies are belong to Bubs :)

I agree. I think the addition of any amulet has to be considered carefully. I haven't farmed a lick, but that nature ammy (I think that's what it's called) is the first in a long time. JAGeX definitely doesn't want to make things way easier, and this ammy would sorta do that, I feel.

lpinkus

I don't see much of a point to it but if it was implemented then I would say it has to be charged regularly or something.

Just something so that it can't be used all the time.

Well, I wasn't under the impression we were discussing the monsters in the wilderness...but yes, that would be correct.

But my formula is still true, and the amulet would only have to apply for non-wilderness areas. The wilderness is meant to be unsafe, even if they ARE only level 6 rats attacking you. :?

Agreed, the wild is supposed to be unsafe. And, for the record, I was once killed by a goblin, but never lvl 6 rats :)

Outside the wilderness, there are some areas that the amulet shouldn't work against EITHER

The wine of zamorak would be to easy to optain while holding this amulet

You can steal the whole day without ever seeing a single paladin, and all you have to worry about are watchmen

Don't worry, Kalaphin Queen Liar's enterance isn't protected no more

Let's rescue Ali, with the amulet you don't have to worry about these annoying guards ever again

Well, protectors that protects something are depose to attack you. In other words, no. Optaining protected objects would be piece of cake.

True Blaze, the proposed ammy should not affect quest-related NPCs and monsters. I also agree it should not influence the thieving skill or the Kalphite lair. That said, I'm not sure if this ammy is necessary at all. The effect is interesting, but it seems like it would be too much.
