Great Orb Project: The Attract Wand

Featured Replies

To-do list:

1.) More specific positions and tricks for each altar without ever using the repel wand.

2.) Show the off-center scoring basics. (Priority!)

3.) Group the basics into one 'hidden' section. Divide the altars into their own individual sections.

4.) Some ideal team positions depending on the number of teammates while having randoms and fruitcakes.

5.) A few ways to get around barriers. (Not sure if I should include the use of the repel wand.)

6.) High detail and low detail graphics setup. (Might not include.)

7.) Change topic title to: Great Orb Project - The Attract Wand. :wall:

8.) Free up time from busy schedule in order to flesh out the guide. :ohnoes: :ohnoes: :ohnoes:

Nice Guide! I might finally finish that goal of full green Runecrafter robes... :-k

i agree with everyone here...for a while i had trouble with the minigame...wish i had this guide before i found out those tricks...lol....yeah...only one main flaw that i saw was that if your on the air altar lvl...it'd be easier to just stand in the middles of the sides of the altar and attract orbs from the opposite end, switching spots if necessary

edit; it is also a good idea to explain why the 4 cardinal directions are the best. If you wanted to be sharp you could take a pic of an altar in low def mode then fill in the squares where you can 1 click an orb, by standing in NEWS. Then do the same as if you were standing off set.

Oooh, good point. Hmm, I should get on it.

Great guide. One thing that's confusing is where south/north etc directions are because you don't have a north arrow or anything and your picture has been tilted.

edit: and another is that it's hard to locate what you're talking about in the picture (try using a bolder colour or circling things)

So: I need to include an arrow pointing North, and I should bold things out more in pictures. The bolder color thing is a good idea, I'll do it when I get photoshop on this computer again. *scribbles these down in notes*

Barriers only prove problematic for the most part on large altars like Earth and Mind. And usually, on those altars, the player is repelling to the altar. So, it may be difficult to get much out of maneuvering around barriers with an attract wand, while avoiding the repeller wand.

I'd love to see an expansion to encompass the repeller wand.

All I can really say about the repel wand is that its a bit like football. The English one, the one ppl call soccer. Though its fidgety to push the orb and walk after it, cant exactly run with the orb unless you got excellent click reflexes. *cough* Puu4 *cough* The repel tricks are altar specific and arent universal like the basic attract tricks, if you get what I mean.

Adding a repel guide would be really image heavy.

I'd have to agree with your last statement, and I know what you mean. Honestly, half the fun is figuring things out for yourself.

Oooh, he took in a student? I wont hyt-snipe you when I see you btw.

Im going to try and rework the images with a grid-mapped altar to make it easier to see where to stand and where the orbs should be. The topdown view is sorta slanted though so itll be hard to get right. I dont think Ill be able to make one for low detail, the screen is too puny and ive only played low a couple of times.

Hai again, I added a "Pathfinder" section to the guide, can you tell me if that makes it any clear for you? :ohnoes:

Must have taken you a while to do all of that.

It does map out exactly where the orb is, and direction, which should be helpful.

A combination of your explanations in your Tricks section and the pictures in your Pathfinder section should make things much easier.

I've been thinking. Maybe the inexperienced players get the wrong idea when, in this instance (yellow orb trapped):

2cps0ax.png

Their orb is pulled in while they are still holding it, but not because of them, but because someone stole it from them. It may confuse them into thinking such a position will bring their orb in.

I like this guide because it emphasizes what the correct positions are. If only more people looked at it.

You have a point about the stolen orbs. Should I bother putting up 'individual' failures of orb scoring with only the scorer and no one else, and the image having a huge X on it? :o

I think single person failures would be a great idea =D.

Some people seem to think if they click on the orb, it will automatically come to the altar regardless of obstacles -.-
