Greatsilverwyrm
I'm guessing you know what Internet Explorer is. I'd venture to say that a majority of the people who will read this post are using FireFox. But, have you ever heard of Opera? Have you ever tried Opera? For those of you who don't know, Opera is an alternative web-browser. It has tons of great features, including a multi-document interface (MDI), mouse gestures, sessions, panels, a fantastic mail client, and much more. On top of that, it is currently the smallest (only 3.9mb download), and fastest Windows browser. I would give you all kinds of reasons to use Opera, but, others have done it before me, and much better than I could have done. So, take a look at these links: http://operalover.tntluoma.com/8/ Rather extensive guide to Opera and it's features http://tntluoma.com/beyond30/2003/08/opera_vs_mozilla A response to a review of Opera. It's slightly outdated, but still a good read. http://nontroppo.org/wiki/WhyOpera Again, slightly outdated, but gives a point-by-point "Why Opera?". I've used Opera for years now, since version 6, and every time I try and switch to something else, I end up missing something from Opera, and going back within a month. Give it a try at least. If you have any questions feel free to ask me, and I'll try to answer, or try and find the answer if I don't know.
Chris
Well I's use internets explorar and it goes and displays them web page things pretty well. Also comes with that product Micrasaft windoes ex pee! So ya can't go wrong with it. Huck huck. Yeah I know about Opera, the adverts bugged me. I also don't like Firefox as it adds more hassle to browsing. Have to love Microsoft's little monopoly. Mercifull
I have a copy of the latest version of Opera which I use for dev purposes but i dont use it for browsing. I dont like the adverts on there and i know that you can p[ay to remove them or get rid of them by "alternate" means but thats beside the point. In my opinion its also very bloated. It takes a lot of customising to remove the features you dont want and configure it to your tastes. Ive heard all the prons and cons millions of times but in my experience (thats whats what counts) Firefox is better so I wont be using Opera in the forseable future. Greatsilverwyrm
Matt, elaborate on "It takes a lot of customising to remove the features you dont want". Also, while it may take a bit to get it set-up to your tastes, I feel that it's less than it takes to download all the extensions you'll want for FireFox. Unfortunatly my "out of the box" copy of Opera is littered with millions of tiny windows and panels with miles long menus. As for extensions, I find that a pro point that I only need install the things that I want. Mercifull
The problem with IE is that it tends to accept naughty files that mess with my pc if i go on my favourite "entertainment" sites ;) Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. Now, where are the millions of tiny windows and panels with mile-long menus? The capitalist argues that "Its supply and demand tho!" mmmm :-/ Hard to understand but basicly your anti argument is my pro. My argument, however, is that most of Opera's features are features that a majority of people would find useful. If you don't beleive me- A lot of Firefox's most popular extensions are features that are already in Opera. Plus there's the issue that extensions may be incompatible with eachother, or future versions of FireFox. You haven't, by the way, adressed yet that Firefox is slower and larger than Opera. Mercifull
Why cant you just accept my opinion instead of arguing with me about this? I belive that Firefox is better than Opera for me and my needs. I dont feel that i should have to take a screenshot of my computer to justify my opinion but I will if necessery. As for the speed of firefox, i've always found FF to be much faster than Opera with much more visible space (partly due to the windows everywhere) Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. Greatsilverwyrm
Sorry, I guess I didn't make my intentions clear. I wasn't really trying to argue with you. The counter-points were for the benefit of other people. I was simply presenting a counter-opinion.
Sunli
As administrator on this forum and working on the PC from home I have tried Firefox, IE and Opera. Opera is the best web-browser of them all. Firefox was impossible to use as admin on tip.it. IE is slow and not userfriendly at all. Opera is a great help when I admin this forum and when I need to have 5 - 7 windows open at same time. I also found Opera more 'userfriendly' then Firefox. I used Firefox for 6 months but had to go back to Opera. - "I am willing to die...I mean try" - Jewelfire (Want to go bossing?) -"we tried, we cried and we died!" - Limparse (What happens to old farts and tarts on monster-hunts) - "...and we found out that there are as many ways to get to warriors guild ...as there are elders trying to get there" - Lysi *snods agely* sorry... *nods sagely* - Brammy -"Equality is being treated the SAME as everyone else; not having special treatment and unique things added in to everything." - Sy_Accursed

____
Well, I have IE, FireFox and Opera installed. I've had the urge to go out and download 15 odd extensions for FF so it behaves in a similar fashion to Opera but in the end I really can't be bothered to hunt down the extensions which I'll need. Or not exactly need but prefer to have just to make it easier to use. Straight out of the box, the only difference I see between IE and FF is speed and tabbed browser. If you honestly want to make something great of FF you'd have to tweak it more than Opera. IMO.
den160593
I use IE 6 SP2 It's really, really good. The speed is ok (thats because I have T1) No annoying pop ups (only IE4 and older had them ) and it is userfriendly so you when I'm on and half asleep I don't go dizzy from all the icons. I tried FF but it didn't work well and Opera will I just couldn't be bothered to tweak it and it was slower than IE. GO IE SP2
Mercifull
Out of the box opera from a few months back I have made no modifications nor changed any settings. Thats how it looked after i downloaded it. And don't tell me to download 8 and try that please. Ive used opera many times before and used many different versions and I have never liked it. Please spare your troubles trying to convince me to change my opinion. I only posted the screenshot to show my earlier point to Wyrm and do not wish to discuss it. Greatsilverwyrm
If you're thinking of trying Opera, just for your information, Matt's screenshot is outdated. The newest version of Opera has a revamped default interface, revamped preferences area, and overall is a lot cleaner than previous versions. kaibani
Lol i'm too lazy to download the 3.9mb opera alternative broswer, even though i have cable. I'm just too used to IE 6 right now, and i love it for its simplicity lol. Also, I have a google tool bar underneath the address bar which perfects my browser. :wall:    :P :x  :? 8) :o :( :) :D These emotions symbolize my compassion for my own browser which i have sticked with for over 3 years, and is going to be my fourth soon! Sup noobs.
