compfreak847
Basically, your saying that if everything is calculated on a subatomic level, the path of every particle and quark can be analyzed and predicted for any future date? It's a good theory, but I think the chaos effect\quantum probability\quantum uncertainty would wreck it. It's impossible to measure anything without changing it, so it would be difficult to analyze and simulate individual particle interactions. Zierro
I think freewill is just an inspirational idea... one that works. Just the thought that we have freewill effects our destiny, but of course fate decides if we are going to be someone who believes in freewill or not. I think compatibilism makes the most sense. mmmcannibalism
[hide=]Basically, your saying that if everything is calculated on a subatomic level, the path of every particle and quark can be analyzed and predicted for any future date? [/hide] fatalism isnt saying that you can calculate everything, its saying that everything will happen in a given manner for what the calculations which are impossible to gain would tell. Since the Heisenburg uncertainty principal says we cant know the movement and place of an electron we could never say how everything would turn out, but it holds that logically if everything in the universe is doing a specific thing what will happen next is also entirely specific. Though this may be true, its not like you dont have free will, it just means your free will was created and has already been basically chosen. Its hard to analogize this properly, but its like saying just because we evolved from monkeys doesnt make us less human. edit--cartoon hadnt loaded, that was really awesome. Orthodoxy is unconciousnessthe only ones who should kill are those who are prepared to be killed.

Laura
You could easily argue that fatalism and "free" are one in the same.

Sumpta
We have free will, but we're also determined by a lot of things that are beyond our grasp (genetics, surroundings, education,...). I don't feel like it's fatalism, but I do trust that things will turn out the way they should. I try to have faith that what happens to me is somehow what's meant to happen to me. It sounds very sappy and more religious than I feel it, as I write it down though. I guess I simply trust life to be what it is. Life. With its glorious and less glorious days. Tim
Fatalism is just science merging with the religious belief of fate. I don't buy it. I was half expecting a Mortal Kombat pun thrown into this but at least you summed it up for me. I honestly dont belive in Fate itself, my life, my actions are only determind by me, no Immortal, Force of God-Shaped Cloud controls me otherwise. The only True fate is that were born to Live and Die as (in my thought) is the Icon or Meaning to Life (Slight veer off topic). This was the Least Gruesome one i could find as a pun to the word "Fatality" No Lemons were harmed in the making of this Fatality. You summed up my opinion on it pretty well. There are two possibilities: everything happens for a reason or everything happens for no reason. The first is much easier for me to believe.
