Downloaded, installed, played. Wasn't anything special. You think with all the time they've put in it they would of had some new innovation but no. The one thing that really got to me was that when your in cover you can't lean to the side, you can only pop up, and you could only carry one assualt rifle.

You can lean to the side.

IMO it's better than anything else I've played. Graphics are epic, it feels heavy, in a good way. When you move, you feel as if you are actually moving a man laden with kit, not a balloon. Gameplay-wise, it's a bit objective - based, but this changes after the third mission (as the reviews say), into more constant action, with the occasional switch flipping.

Better than anything else on the market atm.

Also, if you thought guns in COD4 were lethal, have a go at this. So damn powerful, it's amazing.

So don't let anyone tell you you're not worth the earth,

These streets are your streets, this turf is your turf,

Don't let anyone tell you that you've got to give in,

Cos you can make a difference, you can change everything,

Just let your dreams be your pilot, your imagination your fuel,

Tear up the book and write your own damn rules,

Use all that heart, hope and soul that you've got,

And the love and the rage that you feel in your gut,

And realise that the other world that you're always looking for,

Lies right here in front of us, just outside this door,

And it's up to you to go out there and paint the canvas,

After all, you were put on the earth to do this,

So shine your light so bright that all can see,

Take pride in being whoever the [bleep] you want to be.

I couldn't lean but I only tired to once in the warehouse behind one of the tables. I'll probably give it a second run through in a minute, it was pretty fun and I'm considering picking it up at the end of the month. Has anyone heard anything about how its multiplayer ranks up? I read what it said at the end but that wasn't to ensuring.

Has anyone heard anything about how its multiplayer ranks up? I read what it said at the end but that wasn't to ensuring.

Heres some information on the multiplayer..

Q: "Has any info been released on Killzone 2's multiplayer yet?"

A: Yes. All I can say is that the Multiplayer looks and sounds amazing and I'm sure many people will agree with me on that. Here's a very informative article from IGN that explains tons of the Multiplayer features.

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/891/891245p1.html

Q: "Will Killzone 2 have a BETA?"

A: Yes. The BETA has already passed.

Q: "Will Killzone 2 have Split-screen or Co-Op?"

A: Split-screen and Co-Op are unfortunately a no.

Q: "Can you customize your character online?"

A: Visually, no. But there is 12 player models (skins) for online.

Q: "How many maps are there online?"

A: Shipping with the game there will be 8 multiplayer maps

Q: "How many players are there up to online?"

A: 32

Q: "How many ranks are there for online?"

A: 12 ranks

Q: "Is the online system class based?"

A: Yes

Q: "How many classes are there online and what are they?"

A: Killzone 2's class (or badge) system is interesting in the fact that each player has the ability to take one of the primary classes abilities and then add a secondary class ability to them there by making your own form of custom class. The classes are as follows:

Rifleman:

The default multiplayer character is assigned when no primary badge is selected. A secondary badge may still be added. Riflemen can start with most weapons, except for the specialized ones.

Engineer:

Primary badge ability: Sets up an automated turret which targets the enemy.

Secondary badge ability: Repairs ammunition dispensers, mounted guns, and automated turrets.

Medic:

Primary badge ability: Revives downed team mates.

Secondary badge ability: Throws a health pack, which can be picked up by other players.

Scout:

Primary badge ability: Uses a cloaking suit to become near-invisible.

Secondary badge ability: Tags all on-screen enemy players with a hidden marker, which broadcasts their coordinates to team mates.

Assault:

Primary badge ability: Dons heavy armour twice as strong as normal.

Secondary badge ability: Temporarily boosts running speed.

Tactician:

Primary badge ability: Throws a coloured smoke grenade, which serves as a spawn point.

Secondary badge ability: Requests air support from a sentry bot, which targets the enemy.

Saboteur:

Primary badge ability: Assumes the disguise of a randomly selected enemy player.

Secondary badge ability: Throws a sticky, proximity-activated C-4 charge.

Q: "How long can matches last online?"

A: Match times have been seeing lasting 100 min.

Q: "How many game modes are there and what are the game modes?"

A: There are 5 Online Multiplayer game modes. Assassination, Bodycount, Capture and Hold, Search and Destroy and Search and Retrieve.

Q: "What is the object of the game modes?"

A:

Assassination: A target is selected on your team or the enemy team. If the target is on your team, you must defend within a certain length of time. If the target selected is on the enemy team, you must eliminate him within a certain time period. This game mode appears twice in a Warzone game. (Once defending the target and once attacking the target)

Bodycount: Basic Team Deathmatch with a cooler name. This game mode appears once in a Warzone game.

Capture and Hold: Capture target areas and defend them from the enemy.

Search and Destroy: You must destroy or defend your objective. To destroy your objective, you must plant explosives on two enemy objectives and defend them within a certain period of time without allowing the enemy to defuse the explosives. To defend your objective, you must keep enemies from planting explosives and defuse them if planted, maintain this for a certain length of time and you succeed in your mission.

Search and Retrieve: A more extreme Capture The Flag with propagranda speakers rather than flags.

Q: "Are the vehicles online?"

A: Not on release.

Q: "Does Killzone 2 support clans?"

A: Extensively, it introduces the valor point system which your clan is rated by and can be bet against other clans. It can also be earned in tournaments. Clans have a higher limit of 64 members.

Q: " Is Lean and Peek in the Multiplayer portion of the game?"

A: No. Guerrilla didn't want to force anything that didn't feel right. It was said the cover system felt too tacked onto the Multiplayer and that players would typically take a step back from cover so that they could crouch rather than use the Lean and Peek cover system. Guerrilla knows what they're doing so trust their decisions.

Sounds pretty cool. I like how they are doing the class system. I just watch a few multiplayer videos on ign and it look pretty fun, I liked the layout of the map they were playing on, but the people in the videos sucked so bad they died within 5 seconds of the video and couldn't aim worth crap.. Reminds me of halo's multiplayer in a way.

I only played the BETA at the start, and here are the impressions I got:

Negatives

Freindly fire is on as standard, and this is very irritating as it is very easy to acidentally teamkill somebody when they run in front of you, as a lot of fighting takes place in tight corridors. You lose a LOT of points for this, 1 TK = a loss of the points for like 6+ kills. There is also a mechanic where if you "die" you have 5 seconds writhing in pain on the ground in which a medic can heal you. In practice this just seemed irritating also, as it slowed the game down and also no one seemed to play as a medic. Also on the 3 maps that were in the BETA there were a lot of camping spots, things like the tops of ladders and narrow corridors, where you were forced to move through to reah objectives, but could easily be held down by 1 person. Also grenades felt weak, making the camping issue worse.

I didn't play the BETA at the end, so possibly some of this has been fixed.

Positives

You can choose guns in each class, so for example you can choose between different assault rifles on an assault class. Guns also feel well designed and balanced. The different objectives given in a round help to break things up and they work pretty well. Apart from camping spots there was good level design and art direction, I really felt like I was fighting on some hellish, wartorn planet. The Helghan are also well designed, not so much the humans, which feel pretty much like your generic future marine/commando force. There is good stat tracking, and the game also found games intelligently and many games ahd the full 32 players in them.

I'd say the graphics were the best part of Killzone 2. Litterally everything is very well detailed, great lighting, great effects, etc. Apart from MGS4 i'd say Killzone is the first game to really push the PS3. The graphics are above and beyond what the Xbox 360 can achieve. (sorry MS fanboys)

Meh, I played it, wasn't really impressed. For starters, you had to make headshots for quick kills, other than that you'd end up using your whole magazine on one enemy. And also, the enemies would suddenly come out of nowhere from behind you, which was weird. The thing I did like was the cover system, very effective and useful. Also, from what I've heard the multiplayer sounds a bit strange. So yeah, a bit overhyped, don't think I'll buy it.

I read about the multiplayer and it sounds like a bad version of team fortress 2's gameplay. :)

Other than that I heard it was fairly generic and had some downright bad lines in the game that were cheesy. So I'm guessing it's pretty much the same as the first Killzone.

Oh and the fanboys for this game are great. A review site gave Killzone 2 an 8/10 and they went [bleep]ing nuts all over the place.

Is this the game all Ps3 owners are hyping?

My cousin dl it and i played it for awhile, and i find it nice. It's nothing AMAZING, but it has a good gameplay, but there were alot of campers when i played. Like Nadril said, it feels like a bad rip of of TF2 also, the game is gray and muffled-gray orange. It has awesome lightning, but i can't say that it's better than Crysis.

(which is light years ahead)

but i think something with the budget/dev time on the Xbox360 could look the same.

8.5/10

I wouldn't say all PS3 owners are hyping it, I'm not. Its just been a long over due release. The game was first announced back in E3 2005 with its "epic" trailer and 4 years later its finally being released.

best graphics a console game has achieved to date. comparing it to crysis isn't really fair. sure a game on a $2000+ rig that can achieve highest settings on crysis will have better graphics than a console. otherwise you'd be playing a slideshow

not anything incredibly innovative but that doesn't mean it's not a great game. their ai is very impressive, multiplayer was what i'd expect

release date buy for me

Wow Edge magazine gave this game a 7/10.

Considering 40/44 sites/magazines gave this game a 9+ and 8 of those are perfect scores, the score edge gave seems like they did it just to be different

i'm buying the game, psn: liekomgbaby

Hyped games generally do that. Really that's why I only trust a few review sites (like GiantBomb) because I find the big ones will skew the scores in their favor. I.E Edge gave halo 3 all kind of awards when it isn't a good game, ect. ect.

@Steve

The first KZ was an epic fail. I really dont think they intended to make a 2nd, and if they did, this has basically nothing to do with KZ1.

Seems like a good game though.

Im starting to wish I had enough money to get a ps3. :|

I dont need a siggy no moar.

Got it yesterday, and I'm impressed.

The online is good, with up to 32 players and its holding out better than CoD4 ever could. Plus its pretty fast paced, my only grievance is some people suck, I stood at the same spot and picked off 6 in 1 life until they found me (half were headshots). I like the idea of your secondary weapon (pistol) having infinite ammo, it sucks as a weapon, but at least it holds out until you get some more ammo.

Done the first two missions on the Campaign, and they were good. Required some thinking, and some (I'm looking at a certain Helghast Assualt trooper) are hard to kill (headshot so he turns, then shoot the canisters on his back.)

Overall, worth getting.

Been in the beta since november. The graphics are impressive but other than that its pretty generic.

That's my impression so far, only played it for an hour though, hope it gets better

It's tough at the top ;)
