I wanted to talk about this, but couldn't think of any.

Well, with the popularity of Fallout 3, I believe post-apocalyptic games can start to be easy to find and GOOD. And I think this is awesome.

I WANT SOME MAD MAX BULL [cabbage] UP IN THIS.

I don't really know what all to say, but I'd like you know you guys' thoughts. Yay? Nay? Gonna go eat some hay? Did you hear May say they went to the bay?

Alright, I'll let you crazy kids loose.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

I'm very interested in the Post-Apocalyptic MMORPG Earthrise. It seems to be promissing some fun PvP and a very open ended world.

iming in Earthrise's combat will be done as with standard shooters, but the weapons available to characters will allow a player to keep a bead on their target. On Earthrise's crafting system, Atanasov says that players will be "capable of infusing Designs into items -- special bonuses and enhancements, or totally separate effects that allow the crafter to customize an item to the needs of his or her customers." Certain crafters may well become influential figures in Earthrise, Atanasov says, known for coming up with powerful item builds.

Also interesting is that Atanasov discusses the benefits to territorial control that take full advantage of Earthrise's sandbox approach to game design. He says: "Players who group together in a guild and take over a territory have incredible influence over the world economy as conquered territories are the sole source of rare resources used for the crafting of powerful items in the game. If one guild decides not to sell or to share its resources with certain alliances that would shift the price of that resource on the whole server and [bleep]e conflicts among players. Such influential roles of territory conquest are currently matched in very few MMORPGs on the market."

Hmm... Does BioShock count? And would Mass Effect count? As nearly everything is pretty much screwed near the end?

I think it opens up a whole lot of new possibilities in gaming that hasn't really be explored much and its also a nice change from WWII games, and crazy aliens trying to take over the world and for some reason we humans always have to form a resistance to take back our world..

Or time traveling pigs from the past that form an anti-utopia in a post-apocalyptic world..

Oh crap, someones already posted one out of the two games that are the 'if darkfall fails, we go to these games'. Another game to get rolled over.

Separating the Sci-Fi from the post-apocalyptic games is going to be the real challenge in this thread.

True. I'm saying more Mad-Maxian. But, if the sci-fi game is cool enough, bring it ON!

I think Stalker does a good job with it. Not post-apocalypse, but it has that kind of feel. Few permanent safe havens, fending mostly for yourself, lawlessness and all that. Radiation is fun, too. Although I don't know if that's just sci-fi or post apocalyptic.
