Frzphnx
27 straight losses...gets to you after a while. Are there ever games where it *isn't*? one team of people that have been working together for a while vs a pug group? Just starting to grate on me. When at least a dozen games open in the range of 22 to 9 and go down from there, with myself getting at least 8/9...is it even worth it? Or am I missing some great secret. Because of Compfreak's kind assistance, perhaps I'll clarify. It really doesn't matter how individually skilled one is, when people insist on just afk-ing, or building completely random barriers continuously. Unlike FoG, afk-ing has no serious negatives, and unlike say, soul wars, it only takes a few afkers to completely shift the balance. After carefully reading compfreak's response, I'd like to point out: -My rant was not a "incoherent one-sentence rant". -Valid argument: Clearly the losses aren't random unless I'm missing something. Considering the fact that joining teams is based purely on which slots are open where, unless the grouping *aren't* random, such a string would be exceedingly unlikely. -Anticipation of responses? --Similar experiences --Statements giving various explanations --Unhelpful people --Suggestions for improvement -Title? This being Runescape, GoP generally refers to the Great Orb Project -Why it is negative: Perhaps other have similar frustrations and aren't quite sure what to do. Going with friends who are good is a good idea though, will definitely give you that. Improving personal skill is, in my opinion, of debatable value. Obviously I wish I could perfectly anticipate everything before it happens, but frankly, running myself ragged while people are just standing around time and time again is very demoralizing. compfreak847
It's your teams fault. The team with the greater skill will win. Learn to get better yourself, go with friends who are good, or join a clan with good teams. Not one darn thing Jagex can do to make the team with less skill win, I see no discussion value in this (http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=783809): "Topics need well thought out ideas, your rants also need to be worthy of discussion. Rather than saying, "I don't like this, it sucks," you need to present a valid argument for your rant and back it up. When creating your topic, imagine how people would respond. Would they have something to say at all? If you can think of valid responses and discussions, the chances are that you have a valid topic/argument. As an example, if you want to rant about an aspect of the RuneScape game, first describe that aspect. Then explain what you think about it, why it negatively affects the game and/or community, and maybe even provide a solution to the problem or describe what Jagex should do to fix it." I'll report this thread, if tripsis handles it (which she probably will) take a look here - if you do lock it, good. If you don't, explain why - it's a test of the 'new' guidelines :P Drops: 1x Draconic Visage, 56x Abyssal Whip, 5x Demon Head, D Drops: 37, Barrows Drops: 43, DK Drops: 29GWD drops: 14,000x Bars, 1x Armadyl Hilt, 2x Armadyl Skirt, 4x Sara Sword, 1x Saradomin Hilt, 8x Bandos Hilt, 8x Bandos Platebody, 9x Bandos Tassets, 4x Bandos Boots, 43x Godsword Shard, 82x Dragon BootsDry streak records: Saradomin 412 kills Bandos 988 kills Spirit Mages 633 kills - Slayer Sucks
tripsis
I wouldn't call this a "test of the 'new' guidelines" if you're thinking of it the way I think you are :P A test to see how far they extend and what they refer to - maybe. But not a test to see if they're going to be enforced. With overarching rules like those, you cannot explicitly say, "Here's a list of forbidden topics," so moderators still have to make a lot of their own judgments and decide when the rules should be applied/enforced. My judgment is that I think there is discussion value to this thread. Now maybe my opinion isn't the best one since I don't know anything about the Great Orb Project so I'm unfamiliar with how it works. But I think that Frzphnx presented his rant in a reasonable fashion and I see more to his post than "I'm sick of losing," which was exactly what my new guidelines discouraged. Frzphnx discusses skilled groups vs. PUG groups, the fact that not much skill is required and the ability to get away with AFK-ing. His main rant here doesn't seem to necessarily be venting about his 27 losses, but he's suggesting that personal skill should play a bigger role. Now in your defense, compfreak847, it looks like he did add quite a bit to his first post since you commented. It's quite possible that his original post may have merited a lock. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
compfreak847
He edited in the second, third, and fourth paragraphs afterwords. However, I can summarize this: He is complaining that people can semi-AFK and still receive rewards, making his team lose if the other teammates can't compensate. This is a problem entirely out of Jagex's fault, with no solution either suggested or indeed possible, and no possible discussion besides my previously mentioned one of finding a better team or simply "yeah, I agree with you". It could just as well be a questionnaire of "Do AFKers\people who do nothing in GOP annoy you?" Basically, it's a rant about a small annoyance with no possible solution and all the workarounds already suggested. There's nothing at all to discuss here, with no solution whatsoever on Jagex's part. He's not complaining that his efforts don't do enough, or that not enough skill is required, he's simply saying that AFKers and people who don't play well annoy him. There is no where in his posts where he discusses anything Jagex can do to eliminate them, and indeed there is nothing they CAN do. sees_all1
I love the GOP to death - its my favorite minigame, albeit its bugs. I do believe that I was in your shoes about 2 months ago, where I was a semi-decent player, and I'd always join up through the blue wizards. That way, I'd be placed on the team with worse players. From losing so much, I'd gotten to be a decent, even above average player, with more than enough skill on my laptop (without a mouse :wall: :wall: ) to hold my own against other teams. I'd get angry at other players on my team when they did stupid stuff - hugged orbs, attract orbs out of the position I meticulously placed them in, etc. Anyhow, if you've gotten to be a good player, the next step is to identify the players and teams to avoid. Whenever I saw a few players, I'd know - heck, I'd better sit out this round, and wait it out, because there's that clan again. It wasn't until BioIce said Hyt to me, and told me which clan to join did it all turn around. Now I know only to join teams with a purple dot in them, or teams that had no dots. Occasionally we'll come across another stacked team, but the chance now is slim to none. Anyhow, until you figure out which clan to join, or what players to avoid, you'll still have this problem. Frzphnx
Yes I did edit it, I tend to not plan out every post ahead of time, but I tend to add as needed. Sorry. Thinking about how there's no way to really change the semi-afk thing, perhaps it could be changed to be based on individual performance, with a decent team bonus depending on the final outcome. Ie, I'm bad with mechanics, but say each orb is worth x points and if it gets to center, then give x/(number of players who helped) to each player, with additional bonuses at the end based on team performance. I really want to use other examples, but find it difficult to put it into non-specific terms. That's how they solved similar problems in other games, as I recall. Thanks for the input sees! I'll look into competent groups.
compfreak847
Points are too small; it's hard to divide them up based on performance, and it completely ruins the whole 'team based' aspect. We already have enough solo games; we'd have an uprising about the death of solo teams. It's a team oriented minigame, you can't kill it just because a few people don't pull their weight. It's a side effect of relying on your teammates; that's just how it is. Sir_Kurity
Gop is a real pain, jagex tries to make it balanced, but there will almost always be one team with 900+ points, and the last one with 100 points wondering why they even try. I think points should be more about total orbs gathered, not total altars, so its not so one sided and insane, i think this is why people AFK. qwedloki100
I love those randoms on my team who afks on gop. No sarcasm there. Without half of those idiots hugging and repelling the orbs, my partner and I can score (quite easily) into 40+ (air altar). Instead of complaining about going against effective teams, why don't you learn the game, and be part of a team (partnership) that can score so well? Btw, it's true that teams are quite unabalanced, due to 'good players' working well together. If you want some serious tokens you'll just have to learn how to be tip that unbalanced balance to your favor.

Skillcapes, are NOT indications of a good gop player. And if there's a "skillcape dude" in both team.. . 'Sides skillcapes can be removed with one click, while the player's skill remains. There, a good player with no skillcape (nowai). Going for orbs no one else is going for is useful, please score them and not drag them around the altar ten times though.
