Ipod dilemma

I had a 60gb Ipod Photo that i bought last month. However recently my gf borrowed it and she loved it so much that she gave me $350 cash and told me to buy another  (cough the headphone + accessories + unit = $400, but she is my gf afterall)

Anyway i was wondering if i should bother getting another ipod. Iv always felt that the ipod sound quality wasnt what it should be so i looked around on some players on the market.

First i checked out the iRiver H340, however i thought it looked cheap and doesnt have the flair the ipod does.

Second i looked at the Cowon X5. Now here is where the problem comes. The unit is very sharp looking, scratch resistant black aluminum and tons of features from video playback to built-in mic. The biggest plus is the sound quality is much better. Downside is that it doesnt work with any online music store but i never use them anyway.

The Sony offering was nice, but i didnt like its look either. It does have the best controls though and its very small for a 20gb unit.

Now my question is has anyone got any experience with the X5? Its a Korean company and iv never known anyone to have it. HOwever ratings are generally very good.

I have the Creative Zen Micro, and I like it better than the iPod Mini - nobody else has one, it looks cooler (in my opinion), better sound quality, more space for money, voice recorder, FM, user-changeable battery, custom EQ, and more. But since you're obviously looking for a high-capacity mp3 player, I would go with the Creative Zen, which is just the same thing, but bigger capacity and size. It's only available in Asian Markets (see http://hk.creative.com//products/produc ... duct=11519 to buy), but it apparently uses English software and such, so you should be okay. Be aware that I haven't used the Zen itself, but it's supposedly identical to the Zen Micro except for capacity, so I'd go with it.

But if you need photo then just get another iPod.

Well, my dad has a zen micro, and i think it blows... it looks messed up. Id suggest going with a ipod mini since everyone has one and it has the click wheel.

Could you give more reasons for the zen micro "blowing?" As of yet I have had totally wonderful experiences with it. And just because everyone has something does not make it automatically better (very apparent in the case of AIM vs. MSN)

In addition, the click wheel is not as intuitive as the Zen Micro's touchpad, in my opinion. The Zen Micro is easier to operate by feel alone, whereas you must look at the iPod mini to use it.

*sigh* Whenever I state a FACT, not even an OPINION, I get slammed by everyone and "omfgwtfbbq!!1111" ensues.

Perhaps everyone would LEARN TO READ?

Even using it has a hard drive i barely get 20 gig of useage so the rest is pretty much waste. Id rather have a player with better sound quality than the ipod for less the space even if the same price.

Now creative i know has much better sound quality (signal to noise is at 96db vs 90db for ipod) The ipod's lower range seems to have been cut off, you need a very bassy headphone to even it out.

Anyway i think im gonna bite the bullet and just shell out $360 bucks for the Cowon X5. It looks great and has tons of features and really good sound.

I'm planning on getting an ipod myself. As much as I like iriver and dislike apple, the ipod's controlls are incredible. I've tried lots of mp3 players and it's just ummatched. (And if you want to get a new one, they're $370 w/ free shipping from apple's educational site :) )

They are $340 (with an online coupon, you can google buy.com coupon and find it, easy) with free shipping from buy.com

anyway i bought the Cowon. I really dont like Apple's sound quality. Sounds so flat. Plus it has the juice to run video and a very nice screen...so why force us to wait for the next gen Ipod?

Anyway ill post some pics of the Cowon when i get it from Amazon.
