IGoddessI
miokie, if you really want to quit you should look into a prescription medicine called Chantix/Champix http://www.chantix.com/. The success rates are incredible (this coming from GPs not biased advertising sites), side effects are minimal and it can even be covered by insurance. As far as i know it works by blocking the nicotine receptors in your brain, making the smoking of a cigarette for chemical reasons pointless. It's worked for a couple of my friends, i would use it but i dont think i want to quit enough quite yet. Good luck with quitting, it will be hell. I vouch for this product, my mother quit smoking successfully after 20+ years of smoking like a pack a day and unsuccessfully trying to quit 2-3 times before that. It didn't work so much in the way you described (blocking nicotine receptors and seeming pointless) but it made her feel nauseous every time she had a cigarette (much like how I smoked a bad brand for the same effect). The first 2 weeks were hard and then the withdrawal phase left her. She still feels the need for a cigarette sometimes but it's more psychological rather than actually wanting one. She's successfully quit now for about a year or two. The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours.
