Zaniks crossbow

I'm into some ranged slayer training on short notice, and I'm wondering how good Zaniks crossbow is compared to the normal rune one. Is has -12 ranged bonus compared to rune, but it had a special (IIRC).

 

 

 

I intend to use broad bolts, or mithrill ones (e) or regulars.

 

 

 

Any advice?

Rune X-Bow is better, the spec for Zanik's X-Bow is pretty bad considering energy drain (keep as a spec weapon if you really want) and i'm 90% sure that you can't even use broads with it.

I personally would use Zanik's bow on any monster that doesn't give a good return in drops. If you get a bad task where there aren't any good drops, use the stupidly cheap bone bolts. It's more effective than most people think :

Broads are roughly the equivalent to addy, but I definetly remember trying to use broads and ruby tipped bolts and one of them didn't work.

 

 

 

And bone bolts have a failed max hit, broads are well worth the price over bone bolts.

Hey, don't trash the bone bolts. They're the most cost-effective ammo in the game, but can still hit a respectable 17 at 80 ranged. Yes, quite a bit less than broads, but much still much cheaper. About 20x cheaper.

I know for a fact that you CAN'T use broad bolts with Zanik's Crossbow unless they changed it recently (EDIT: Just checked and you still CANNOT use broads with Zanik's Crossbow).

 

 

 

Back on topic... I'd say stick with the rune c-bow since the ranged bonus is higher, and you can use broad bolts, which will give you very good hits for the price. If you can't afford broad bolts or you don't feel like spending the money, then and only then do you use Zanik's with bone bolts ;)
