Actually, the term mb is from the old kilobit model, which built up from the baud model etc.

Kb is indeed different and MB is indeed different, but I don't think the 100 times part is true. It is a different ratio.

However, you should get about 85-95 % of line speed, the other being lost at times due to regional slowdowns etc.

On my cable connection I got right about 95%.

Dsl and fixed wireless etc., wifi, introduce new variables. The DISTANCE figures in, as well as your lines. Therefore throughput could vary widely. If my cable company had not been lying idots I would have stuck with them. They offer a bit cheaper prices and the same rated speed, which is actually higher in real world throughput.

But since they throttled down on all but html traffic, intentionally cut our bandwidth, lied to us about it, blocked certain sites and never mentioned it (including this one for months) just to save themselves from upgrading their infrastructure, I was less than thrilled. Hours of outages EACH WEEK didn't sit well. They even let me replace all my networking setups, reinstall windows, switch out my modem several times, have people come for service calls, etc. rather than just admit (which an IT guy eventually did) that it was all their fault--oops.

Of course now a competitor came in and cleaned em up nice. The competitor put in fibre from start to finish, all the way to the home, integrating tv, telephone, internet. Your caller id pops up on the tv, etc. Very slick. So they had to slash prices, install their own fibre backbone (keeping regular cable connections) and try to catch up.

Now if only municipalities and big players were not blocking utilites style universal public cheap wireless....that would be nice. cable, hot and cold running water, natural gas and up and down running wireless....it has tried to happen a couple of places :) (and has in some foreign countries)

95% of your linespeed? That's insane...

Thanks for the info blazer.. I'm running a DSL line though so I guess I must be about 3,000 miles from the main servers because holy **** my connection is slow. I hope nobody gets mad at me for using theirs. haha.

distance is one part of the equation. If it is super slow then it is likely a problem with old copper wiring or a massively wrong local setting

check this site and compare with those in your zip code using the same service. Then you will know if it is the service or just you :)

general great info on optimizing your connection, and all you never wanted to know about connections:

line speed tests AND local comparison. Remember to check a couple servers to account for regional slowdowns. The fastest is the CLOSEST one :)

tweak tests (for finding out what local settings could be at fault...especially for those running win 98 etc. which has a huge built in bottle neck,..but others too).

My current results:

729 down,

490 up! since my rated up is 500 that is a great throughput. And it also shows that the problem is not theirs, but mine. My lines only handle around 700.

Incidentally with that fast cable before I only got 150 up :(

The picture itself is very nice. A few sidenotes though, the hair for the back of her head looks a bit off. It makes her head a little large. As for the elf part...the ears are a bit off...perhaps she's a nymph? And the right eye's pupil...looks kind of off, it's position kind of makes her look a little demented.

Other than that, the picture itself is good, and keep up the great work. If I may ask, which program did you use for this?

hehe, folks need to re-read the description....

And yeah, it is not an elf, but how are you going to explain that in a title? lol.

I just put elf because folks think they are cool and will check it. It is not really an elf. THat is why the title says sort of .

Thanks for the other crits.

The program was corel photopaint. Similar to ps.

Looks wicked! BTW, is there a correct way to pronounce your name?

I've always pronounced it

"ta-ta-ta-tia"

:)

~108 combat~

5.9k dusties killed / dragon chain :D

'T'-'T'-'T'-'I'-'A' here, just cuz I couldnt figure out any way to make the letters form sounds....

Ironically enough, I've always said it, "titia" I always used that middle T as an I and it makes a word.... so... "tid EE uh" for me... lol

I don't think it's a word though is it?

Verry nice done! :D

Only don't like the legs :) :|

so what type of contest did you make this for?

Not really a big fan of the character, looks distorted and awkward to me, but i like the detail put into the surrounding area, and would probably actually like the piece better without the character in the middle.

Nice though, very nice.

Rather interesting that I've always "read" it as "titia" too. Though in Finnish the pronounciation is more like "[bleep] ee uh".

About the ADSL speeds. Yes, if you have a 8/1 meg adsl like me that means you get the theoretical maximum of 1000kB/s download and 125kB/s upload.

ep, just a graphics battle with a few painters over at rsc. Nothing huge.

as to the name....there is a story behind it. I think Nadril knows it, seeing as I posted it before, and he is the consumate troll :)

(seem to recall him commenting on it at the time).

And in my clan a lot of people in voice would just say tia or plain old "t"

The similarities to ch-ch-ch-chia pets has not gone without notice, though that was not the origin.

hey guys havent posted in a long time i know. but wanted to say hi and hello again tttia ur doing great with your brush art your work has definatly improved since the 1st daily scetch thread hehe..

anyways i guess i better leave some C/C. i could start by saying, Orc or elf? lol things you coulda improved on were the ears and skin color, what im saying is make the ears look more like elf ears like long and outwards rather than looking like dog ears, and secondly with the whole skin color thing IMO pale green is an orc color i would go for a pink or a purple or a blue or maybe even a lighter green thats not as pale but other than that its looking really neat. oh one more thing if you wanted more perfection you need to clean up some of your lines because i can see lots of over drawn lines which could be fixed/improved which could sharpen your image making it look more realistic.

anyways great work tttia and hi again everyone :)

oh and p.s im playing world of warcraft right now so if anyone wanna chat add leguar on the server zul'jin i would love to chat (im lvl 59 soon to be 60 :P) 8)
