May 25, 200917 yr I was going to upgrade my mother's computer will my old RAM chips but discovered she only had 184 pin slots. So i went to amazon looking for RAM and the prices amazed me. I mean like $40-50 for a 1gb stick. I paid $80 for my 4gb (2x2gb) sticks of ddr2. Why is DDR so much more costly?
May 25, 200917 yr Many people have systems that require DDR and most memory manufacturers are A. making smaller quantities, B. holding them in response to demand, and/or C. moving onto future memory standards. I believe that it's a combination of all of them. Supply and demand.
May 25, 200917 yr Hardly anyone uses DDR anymore, since DDR2 or even DDR3 is used in new systems. Therefore it's not viable to make large quantities of them, thus increasing the price for the leftover bit that is still around on the market. June 2, 200917 yr Exactly what those two said. ^ If a company has to go out of it's way to maybe make DDR sticks for any one person, then the price will be a bit higher. ~~Chaise91~~
June 3, 200917 yr Currently, most ram is 240 pin. 184 is older, and there is less of it, so it will be more expensive.
June 3, 200917 yr Yeah, I had this problem on my old motherboard, it's almost so expensive you might want to consider buying a new motherboard first if you're thinking of upgrading it over time, it'll be cheaper in the long run. ~ W ~
June 7, 200917 yr hi there, yes thats really how much they are, the older computer parts the more expensive. a pc133 sd ram 256MB cost around $125.00, you can go to any computer repair shop and thats how much they will cost.
