"In fact, while we sleep, our mind not only rejuvenates itself, but it also strengthens the mental connections in the brain, which is why it's better to study a little every night rather than all night right before the test."

Read that, was like, "[bleep]. I should be studying for the tests I'm going to fail tomorrow."

God damnit.

@Monk

Wear a contact in your good eye and a monocle in the other.

Monk, when did you get contacts? I wear night lenses.

I ordered them last I was at the optometrist, which was about 2 weeks ago. Got them 2 days ago. First day went fine, but I tried to put them in yesterday and then everything went to hell with the blurriness.

Hey, pie, you're the right guy for this job! Or anyone really.

I need 3 random things that go together in a funny way.

A pineapple, K-Y jelly, and binoculars

Monk, when did you get contacts? I wear night lenses.

Are those actually real? How do they work compared to contacts? How much do they cost compared to contacts? Are there certain conditions you need to meet to get them instead of contacts?

I'd [bleep]ing love to put them in when I go to sleep and magically be able to see the next day.

Yes. They are real. I've had them since 5th grade. You put them in before you go to sleep and take them out in the morning and you can see. They're pretty expensive, I think like 500 per eye or something, but the cost probably varies a ton depending on what brand or whatever. But after that they're insured and stuff if you break them or whatever. And I don't know how much insurance pays for in the first place for it. But yeah. They're hard lenses, not soft. So they can break.

@tyler that's a bit vague

That's [bleep]ing awesome. I'm going to ask my doctor about it the next time I go. They're probably cheaper in the long run. What about for your license and stuff? Do you have to say you have corrected vision? It's not like it's something they can really check you for.

The lady said to put 'no' on the contact/glasses thing because I wouldn't be physically wearing contacts when I'm driving. Doesn't really matter that much.

But yeah they have their pros and cons. You have to clean 'em a lot and use drops and stuff, since they're hard lenses and can be uncomfortable and get dirty easily. The worst part is being really tired and realizing you have to get up and put in your contacts or you're not gonna be able to see the next day. Not too big of a deal. Sometimes they can go off-center and hurt a ton but you just re-do 'em. But yeah, worth it.

changes the shape of your cornea as you sleep afaik

That's really cool.

I've always found this speech stuff kind of interesting.

So you prepare these big speeches on a topic given to you, and whoever gives the best speech wins?

Because that's the exact kind of assignment in school that I loathed.

Again, interesting.

It's kind of like that. However, we get to pick our own speeches.

Probably the most best explanation:

There's two categories of events, platforms and interps.

Platforms are what you would think of as a speech. We pick a topic, and we either write an entertainment(a funny speech with no factual merit), an informative(Informs, rather than persuades, about a topic), or an oratory(Persuades, rather than informs, about a topic). Then we get together and give the speeches, and get judged on who gives the most natural presentation with the best written speech and maybe the best visual aids depending on your event.

There are also Extemps. They're more like what you described - they get given a topic about some modern political issue, and they're given a half hour to write a speech about it and present it. It's a different kind of speech, and it's usually not counted alongside the others.

Then there are interps. These are more like mini-plays or acting skits than speeches. You don't write your own stuff, you find or put together a script and give an interpretation of that. There's HI (Humorous Interp, primarily funny), DI (Dramatic Interp, usually monologues about sad events (like rape)), and Poetry (Several different poems with a common theme put together and delivered.). The winners of these events are the ones who have the best characters, the best pops, and the best readings. Most people do these events, rather than platforms.

As a subset of interps, there's the two group events, duo and OID. Both of these can be either funny or serious, depending on what script you choose. Duo/duet is what it sounds like - 2 people interping a script together. The difference between duo and duet is that one of them allows the speakers to touch, and the other doesn't. OID, on the hand, is a group of people. 3-5 people are in an OID team, and they interp their script together. Touching isn't allowed in this event at all. Both events are judged on the same things as the solo interps, but the judge will also look at how well the group works together, which can be a blessing and a curse.

Speech kids don't get together so much for the speech giving, though that can be fun sometimes, especially if you're in a good entertainment round, but instead they do speech because it's fun and classy. Speech kids wear suits. That makes us pro.

Edit: Most best. Wow my brain is fried tonight. I kept writing right instead of write too. >.<

He was known to hate many-a-hater,

He likes a girl named Lacey,

His thoughts about her are kind of racy,

And also his dad likes to [rooster].
