Abc, adjust your habits. Drinking milk or water isn't going to make you fall asleep. Stop using the internet and watching TV about an hour before bed. Regard your bed as a place where you'll simply be sleeping, don't spend all day laying or sitting on your bed on the computer. Gradually turn off lights as it gets closer to the time you want to sleep. Make a consistent routine.

Yeah this, also I find the best way to fix your sleeping pattern is to force yourself to get up at a consistent time and don't take naps during the day.

For example, I get up at 9:00 AM sharp every day even if I have nothing to do, regardless of how late I was up the night before, etc, etc...and I haven't had trouble falling asleep in years.

^That only works for like 10 seconds.

Are there some common household chemicals or something I can inhale to knock me out without doing any long-term physical damage?

Why would you want to do that?

Having trouble falling asleep

tomorrow is your interview. don't be late!

So abc... you can't sleep because you're nervous about the interview? Or is it that you're os used to going to bed at like 4am that you cant' go to bed at 11pm?

Look at that, Pie is actually being helpfull and nice.

Another thing that could help is making an habit of doing something in particular right before going to sleep. Like brushing your teeth. I know, >Brushing your teeth, but after a while, your mind will get used to the sequence of events and prepare to sleep when you perform that action.

Or so I read.

I tried the water thing. I don't feel any different. I don't have a desk or anything in my room, so I'm kind of stuck in my bed with my laptop. I agree with pie, but I don't have anywhere else to go. I guess I'll get off the internet now. Nighty night.

Yep

Midnight's too early. I'm just not tired at all. I can't sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep. I'm only going in for an interview anyway. I don't usually get tired and want to take a nap until like noonish, so I should be fine.

You need to slowly change your sleeping times.

[bleep] biology. I'll do it in a week.

Start staying up later and later till you get to a normal time.

I think it'd be easier to do it the other way...

Not really, for me I would just stay up all night and sleep early (7-9) and do that.

It's harder trying to sleep when your not tired cause you just lay in bed, doing nothing.

stay up a little later each night, sleep in a little later, until you get to the point where you have a normal sleeping schedule.

or wake up really early at 8am and dont go to sleep until 9pm

or wake up really early at 8am and dont go to sleep until 9pm

That's what I was planning on doing. I just don't know if I have the willpower.

Pulling an all nighter and sleeping at 8 is better in my opinion.

Just don't do that on an important day.
