I don't ever remember meeting my grandmother on dad's side. And I apparently met my great grandfather on my mum's side. Apparently he was the best guy ever, or so it seems from my mum's side's stories and such.

If I say "I'm going to my grandparents' house" it refers to my dad's parents. If I say "my grandpa's coming over" it's my mom's dad, since it's just him. I use last names otherwise.

He also used to be in the Merchant Marines, traveling around the world essentially. After my mother had my brother, he started falling back on alcohol and drugs. When I was a young boy and didn't fully understand surnames, I called one of my Grandmothers "brick grandma" because her house was made of brick, and called my other grandmother "blue grandma" due to the blue siding on her house. That went out the window when blue grandma also became brick grandma.

I called my dad's mother Nana, and my mom's mom Grandma D.

Nana was the one that passed away this summer.
