This problem deals with functions defined by f(x)=x³-3bx with b>0.

 

Show that for all values of b>0, the relative maximum and minimum points lie on the function of the form y=-ax³ by finding the value of a.

 

I found that the maxes and mins were located at (b^1/2, 4b^3/2) and (-b^1/2, -4b^3/2), so for that question I took the derivative (y'=-3ax²) and set it equal to 4b^3/2 and -4b^3/2. I don't know what to do from there though. Solving for a gives a number with both b and x in it, and it seems like a should be a number.

Nowhere in the problem does it say so, but it seems like it's looking for one. Unless I'm misreading it, y=-ax^3 is supposed to go through every min and max as long as b is positive.

If every single person who was actively speaking out against SOPA and PIPA represented 100 dollars, you still wouldn't have a fraction of the money that the RIAA et. al. have pumped into congress to make sure this thing goes through. So basically, even if the entire movement was multiplied by 100 and magically turned into something that matters to politicians, it still wouldn't make a difference

if any fg/er goes to jail.. for being on the internet and sharing copyrighted stuff.. i will personally bake a file in a cake and send it to them..

They won't be thrown in jail for visiting illegal websites because they won't be given the opportunity. They'll be blocked. We couldn't go even if we wanted to. Barring some sort of circumvention for which there would be no risk of getting caught.

That's not true at all. Votes matter more to politicians than money most of the time. And there are a lot of people against SOPA. More than you think, probably.

That's not true at all. Votes matter more to politicians than money most of the time. And there are a lot of people against SOPA. More than you think, probably.

There are 350 million people in America. A tiny faction actually know about SOPA and PIPA enough to be concerned. So even if they lost every single one of their votes, they'd still be comfortable, especially given the 95%+ incumbency rate in congress. Votes are more important than money, yes, but when congressmen can get loads of money while losing very few votes, they're very likely to take it.
