Friend is going with her boyfriend and his parents to the college he's going to next year (which is 5ish hours away from here) to do his registration (she won't be attending that school). They've been dating for three months and apparently his mom said she wanted to spend the time getting to know friend. blaah Posted April 7, 2011 Share Posted April 7, 2011 Yeah, I don know. Age isn't an indicator of how grown up you are. In fact, it's thrown one of my used to be closest friends back. Her boyfriend of over a year developed the "I'm 18 now and I can do what I want" attitude the moment he turned, and my friend has it too. I never thought I'd hear her talk to her mom the way she did. Yeah, it was kind of lame that she wanted us back at 12 or whatever, but there's a better way to get your parents to let you stay out later than saying "I don't care, I'm 18 and can make my own decisions". Don't worry, my single friends annoy me too. I just don't like the changes I see in the ones who think they're in amazing, mature relationships. They're not grown up. I'm not against dating for experience, and I wouldn't go into a relationship thinking "this isn't gonna last more than three months", but I've seen several relationships where the two people settle and seem to stay together just to avoid change. And people who make it to marriage that way help the 50% divorce rate. Most of us have 70-80% of our lives ahead of us, and at this age I don't think any of us grasp permanence.
