Mining to 85 by powermining iron

How long do you think it would take for 85 mining from 41? I've heard powermining iron is around 35k/hr exp. Is 85 mining worth it?

divide how ever much exp you need by 35,000 that's how many hours it will take

I believe the 35k/hour figure was using a kyatt and rings of duelling, but I can't be 100% sure.

Don't try and go for 85 mining, you will most probably give up and will have wasted hours of your time for nothing. Instead train a skill which gives you cash NOW rather than at a certain level.

I got 60-87 woodcutting solely on yews on my alt(f2p). I never give up.

Way too be inspiring.

Only do it if you truly believe you can, and I would take a goal of 60 mining first, then see if you feel like quitting.

It will take roughly 130-170 hours if you use proper technique and powermine iron. While the maximum is around 42k per hour, realistically you should expect 30k-35k per hour.

85 mining IS worth it.

On the perseverance front, it is extremely easy to lose your motivation. When I said "let's get 85 mining" I was level 60. I quit at level 70. I took 2 months break, then I said, "you know what, I really want that level". Then I got to 75, took a 1 week break, then powered to 85. What I'm trying to say is that you WILL feel hopeless at times. You can either take a break to refresh yourself or just ignore it and keep going. But don't think that it'll be easy, because it won't. That's not to say you can't get it. But just know that when you're feeling down, don't give up.

That's a good point. If you are p2p, the best idea isn't iron. It's actually granite+sandstone, which is 60k (normal person) to 80k (insane person) xp per hour. Plus you get star hunting which is the best mining xp in the game. Look in my guide for star hunting if you want to know more about that.

to be completely frank with you, mining is pointless anymore. i recently got 67-70 (been going at it for awhile) and while banking (north of yanille) i was getting about 25.5k per hour, and this was 100% focused. the ONLY reason i did this (besides my 'all 70's ' goal) was to get ores to smith.

I'm going to do a ton of rune mining when i get 85.

Your goal is worth nothing if you spend you whole life working for it.

Thanks guys.

I'm a non member, and should I powermine at Rimmington or somewhere else?

Al-K is still one of the best places, although in the NE corner of Hobgoblin's mine there's a nice place also, which is just as good. Rimmington is also an option, but I've found it's SLIGHTLY slower than Al-K and Hobgoblin's.

Unless i'm about to die my life isn't 130-170 hours long.

I'm going to try to get this by next Thursday

This is the help and advice forum. This is not convert-others-to-your-method-of-playing forum. While it's true that mining takes up a lot of time, esp. in f2p, and that he could be doing other things, it is NOT your job to tell him what or what not to do.

He may not find powermining fun, but the reward is 100% worth the effort. Sure it's just a game. But if he decides that playing the game to achieve his goals is the way to have fun, who are YOU to say that he can't do that? If he decides to set 85 mining is f2p as his goal, who are YOU to say that he's wasting his time? If he's doing what he wants to, he isn't wasting his time, and it's NOT your job as a Help and Advice poster to tell him how to play the game.

So just because YOU wouldn't powermine to 85, doesn't mean that he shouldn't. Your job is to give him raw numbers and your opinion of which method is best, if there is a calculation involved. That's it. Your job is only to inform him. I think he is perfectly capable of deciding what he wants to do. You aren't his parents. If he wants to ask for your opinion of whether 85 mining is worth the effort or not, he would've said so.

Agreed. And from what I have noticed, as I am currently going for the same goal, there tend to be quite a bit of people that go to rimmington mine in F2P. I tend to find myself spending more time world hopping than I do mining, unless I'm on a world with close to no people. Which then, the ores spawn to slowly for my liking.

So just watch out at this mine, as your mining xp gain could be dramatically slowed.

I completely agree with everything said by zaaps1. Just to add to that I would just like to say that, please try not to discourage people from pursuing their goals. In my case I used it as inspiration to get the levels that I desired but not everybody is going to do this. Many are going to get down on themselves and give up, so if you have nothing encouraging to say to them, it is best if you say nothing at all.

On the topic of the best mine: the surefire way to insure no one is mining with you is to go to Hobgoblins. It's actually considerably safer on a PvP (but not BH) world than on a normal world (Revs). Sure there's only like 700 people on a world, but there are 4 rocks, not 3. So if you mine 4 and drop 4, you'll be fine.

In case you want to know, the best way to pmine is this:

Either mine 3 or 4 ores, then drop those 3 or 4. It's simply faster and also allows you to keep the stuff you get from randoms, such as gems. You could even try mine 2 drop 2, but it's a lot harder since you need more people in a world, plus it's slower.

The optimal people per world follows:

M2, D2: 1900-full

M3, D3: 1400+

M4, D4: 800+

That's assuming you've master the dropping technique. If not, you could settle for even less people per world. I was doing M3, D3 when I pmined to 85 (also f2p). In the beginning, 800 people per world suited me fine, but after around 80 mining, I was good enough to work perfectly at 1.4k people. Perhaps you can go even higher and get even more xp, but for me those were the optimal amounts, so that's all I can vouch for.

Glad to help, good luck on 85 mining. Keep your spirits high.

Mining remains my favorite skill in the game. I hope you enjoy mining rune as much as I did, as well as everything else mining has to offer.
