Cartoon Network...

Is a contradiction.

I'm really tired of them pulling reality t.v. shows, game shows, and live action "comedies" in nowadays. This includes both the daytime programming and [adult swim]. Actually, adult swim is what I blame for this occurring during the day as well. They realized they could could funnel this garbage through the t.v. when adults were watching, so, why not kids too?! I actually decided to post this whole thread after seeing that they were adding yet ANOTHER non-cartoon show (Slamball... honestly wtf?)

Some of the actual cartoons aren't much better. Total Drama Island/Action and 16teen are just horrible. Yes, that's what we want to watch; a bland rip-off of reality t.v. It's like going to a public place and watching people be people... for fun. Oh, by the way! Prepare for the show, Stoked. It's basically 16teen... except with a bunch of teenage surfers at the beach! Hoo-freaking-ray (major MAJOR sarcasm.)

I honestly have more fun watching those toons made for the younger age group that air in the early morning like transformers and etc as opposed to the shows that air from noon-about 3ish? I guess.

The only shows I really like anymore are:

Day-

Batman: The Brave and the Bold.

Transformers

Chowder (sometimes. some are pretty lame)

The Misadventures of Flapjack

Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Pokemon: DP Galactic Battle

...and... well that's pretty much it.

Night-

King of the Hill

Family Guy

The Venture Brothers

Superjail

Aqua Teen Hunger Force (The pure insanity is entertaining)

Squidbillies (sometimes)

and the Saturday night line-up.

Everything else is trash. I just wonder how much longer before they change the networks name altogether. So, if you have any opinions etc., please post. Most people would call me immature or weird, but, I grew up with this channel and it pisses me off pretty badly to see it be destroyed this way.

It's the ADD generation, We all need something to pay attention to, apparently it's hard to grasp kids these days.

Also for the fact of the Reality stuff, it's due to the fact they don't need writers then, plus it appeals to kids, as they quite possibly (But unlikely) will be able to do stuff like that.

Adult swim's been having the same problems. Cheap work, people will still watch it, to a point, then they make make more [cabbage].

Really it's stupid, people just don't care enough to give good entertainment, that's why I quit watching it, except Colbert report, and similar stuff.

If you do things right people won't be sure you've done anything at all.

I enjoy Colbert. I have had to because cartoons that are being played on both CN and Nick are terrible. Nick has a lot of shows with actors, kinda like Disney Channel, and with all kids shows that are live action, the acting sucks, the jokes suck, and I don't see how anyone can enjoy it. I can't find one worthwhile cartoon on CN to watch. Anime wise, they have nothing. Saturday night's on Adult Swim have been pretty much stripped of anime except Bleach and whatever that show is with the prince and the bodyguard. For god's sake, they play the PJ's on saturday nights, a show that was cancelled specifically because it sucked. They also now play King of the Hill, a show only a Texan could understand.

Adult Swim needs more anime, and less of the crappy comedies. Metalocalypse is good, robot chicken is good, family guy is good, sealab 2021 is good. If Adult Swim is going to be lazy, they can at least play some of their older stuff that was actually funny. The Mighty Boosh? What the hell, why the hell, who the hell? Terrible.

Remember when Cartoon Network had good cartoons like Thunder Cats, Tom and Jerry, Loony Tunes, The Super Friends and such? Now it's just a bunch of dumb durr-durr shows that, like redhaloguy said, tailors to kids with ADD.

But, on the plus side for the reality shows, I saw a commercial for Slam Ball. Who here remembers Slam Ball on [bleep]e? Yeah, it was awesome. So there is that I guess, assuming they don't turn it into something gay.

If it's the ADD generation then they should bring back Ren and Stimpy, at least the writers of that actually TRIED. And Billy West, Fry from Futurama, did the voice of Stimpy. You can't lose!

Since when was Thundercat's a good cartoon?

I don't know when they played the Super Friends (I think you mean Justice League, which I do think is one of the greatest cartoons ever made).

The comedy of these latest cartoons are unstructured, and random, which I guess is why you guys are talking about ADD. I can't stand Chowder, I can't stand Flapjack, I can't stand Total Drama whatever, I can't stand 6teen. It's not funny, and Cartoon Network can rot for all I care. I know they are catering to a new generation, but this new generation has really bad taste...

Yeah, Boondocks is pretty good. Metalocalypse I'm kind of on the fence, but, still entertained. The PJ's is god awful, you're right.

Well, I will give them the fact that they brought back Ed, Edd n Eddy for one and half hours on Fridays. But, I'd have to say that is outweighed by the cgi garfield movies that they have been playing an annoyingly large amount of recently.

And, **** "HAR HAR THARsdays..." I want Cartoon Cartoon Fridays! :wall:

The cartoons aren't getting worse, you're getting older.

I dunno, I would still enjoy Courage the Cowardly Dog, and probably Ed, Edd, and Eddy, if I ever saw them on, though the last time I saw an ad for one of their newer shows, I was thinking "WTF are they putting this generation through?"

But that's just me

I doubt that, considering I already stated I'd much rather watch Pokemon (which is actually a pretty good show now) or Transformers, etc. than any of the other crap that appears later in the day.

Total Drama/16teen both have hardly any action, plot twists, actual jokes rather than puns, or anything different from episode to episode. Total Drama - Challenges, Challenges, everyone ends up pissed. 16teen- Bunch of kids hang out at the mall, hit on each other, get fired from their mall jobs daily.

Destroy, Build, Destory = Junkyard Wars on Ritalin. They barely show the building process (the second coolest part) at all. All it is is c4, tnt, etc the whole show. And the kids are such [wagon] when they win/lose. Plus, it's not a cartoon!

Brainrush - Like Cash Cab, except the questions are unbelievably simple and over-rewarded this-or-that questions. And all the viewer sees is spinning, spinning, spinning. Plus, it's not a cartoon!

Survive This - A bunch of kids crying because they can't access MySpace in the wilderness. Not a cartoon.

Othersiders - FEAR for kids, except, I believe they already had a FEAR: kids edition. Either way it's just shows that showed up on abc/nbc except on a cartoon channel. Oh, yeah, not a cartoon.

Johnny Test - Dexter's Lab rip-off except they only use parodies of OTHER SHOWS to attempt comedy.

Bakugan - Like checkers meets card game? Except this is a kiddie show so it's fine. EDIT - Actually, I may revise my statement of it being totally a kiddie show. A few of the monsters (and even one of the characters, in my opinion) show up as the typical scantily-clad anime girl. :?

Chaotic - Another, even more complicated, card based game show. I don't even understand how kids could follow it...

I may be getting older, but, the quality of programming hasn't stayed the same as it once was. And, it most certainly has not risen either.

I just remembered. The show "Stoked" is coming to "CN." Basically it's 16teen... except everyone is a surfer instead of a mall-rat. Oh and it's set at a beach instead...

stoked.jpg

ugh.

6Teen and TDI/A are made by Canadians so blame them. Stoked is probably made by them as well.

I still think it's a case of you growing up rather than cartoons dumbing down. You don't find children's shows these days funny so you compare them to the ones you used to watch that made you laugh. Your mind thinks that because you didn't laugh at these cartoons that the ones you laughed at were better, but in reality, you were a just a kid.

Cartoons now are going to seem like crap because your humor got more mature and the ones that you used to laugh are going to seem better.

Ok let me rephrase my statement: They were relatively good cartoons; and by that I mean they are entertaining but not necessarily good. You know, like watching a bad movie to laugh at it (Mystery Science Theatre 3000 anyone?). Thundercats took itself way too seriously despite being corny, and it was funny and even if it wasn't it was still entertaining. Besides who doesn't like saying, "thunder, thunder, thunder cats hooooo!" Nobody in reality. It's a good pop culture reference, though.

And Super Friends was on every weekday around noon-ish in the early to mid 90's and had been around since the 70's, like Scooby-Doo. Justice League was a remake and I agree, it was very good. I consider them one in the same, even if Super Friends is a bit hammy, while Justice League was more badass

I liked those cartoons because:

1- They were actually animated.

2- The people who made them didn't apply all of this "cool kid" pop-culture garbage that is just everywhere nowadays.

The reason kids today don't whine about it, is because that's all they know. The majority of the old fanbase has moved on and the current one hasn't been around long enough to have known the cartoons from years ago. Basically... they don't complain, because they don't know any better.

And don't get me wrong. Some of the toons out there ARE good. It's just the majority of them are wastes of art utensils.

I'd watch Boomerang if I could, but, unfortunately I don't have that channel through my provider. And, maybe it's just time passing, who knows. It most certainly is not for the better, though.

We only have Cartoons on Cartoon Network in NZ. But I don't watch them...I mean didn't they take like Ed Edd and Eddy off? That used to be my favourite show :P

I enjoyed Billy and Mandy. That show made so many references to things kids wouldn't understand, and it was usually pretty disgusting and morbid. That show was really good.

Cartoon Network died in 2005.

When they started pulling the classics off. I.E, Dexter's Lab, Courage, Jonny Bravo, Grim Adventures, Etc Etc...

But then there were Fosters Home for Imagenary friends, that was a good one. Cancled.

My Gym Partner is a monkey, the randomness of that show was just awesome. Cancled

Chowder, it has its moments but its pretty good.

And then the Clone Wars, like with chowder it has its moments but its pretty good.

Those are all the shows I can really think were good after 2005.

I really miss pre 2005 Cartoon Network.
