They are moving their back-end servers which don't have anything to do with their internet connection or their ISP. Jagex already said one of their ISP's in the US were experiencing difficulties because of their routers being overloaded. A DDOS attack is possible and shouldn't be ruled out. When you get a bunch of teenage boys together they get a feeling of immunity so yes they would. Not to mention doing this hurts Jagex finacially although they are seeking compensation from their ISP. There is no limit to how stupid people can be. I find it hard to believe people would choose Runescape as the target of a DDOS attack for nothing more than [cabbage] and giggles. But given some of the circumstances of these recent server issues, it shoudn't be ruled out. Maybe some Pker got upset over the recent PvP changes or something and decided this would be a funny way to get back at Jagex. Regardless of their motives, if this is indeed a DDOS attack then I truly hope that they are punished for it. However, since these attacks are notoriously difficult to trace and prosecute, I doubt it will happen. In the end, all we can really do is wait for this to blow over. Badgers Posted July 19, 2009 Share Posted July 19, 2009 I am not joining in with DDOSING because I believe any form of bug abuse is not fair play and shouldn't be right, I hope those responsible are banned, but how do they track this? I lol'ed so hard. Those responsible may or may not be found, but they probably won't, and Jagex's cover story is very true, seeing as ddosing would overload the servers. DDOSING really isnt all that hard to do. and since jagex IP bans, its not that hard to just get another. so they probably are. I mean jagex has been doing a lot with the game recently, and people may just be doing this because they are mad they lost something. so they are quitting and want to get back at jagex. or they see plenty of other people doing it and join in with the trend. Cabbage_Boii Posted July 20, 2009 Share Posted July 20, 2009 In the chat I was in people announced the server they were going to crash seconds later it plummeted to around 50 players in population I swiftly left the chat, around 250 players in the IRC channel, I left not getting involved, I'm just curious as to why they are doing it. Hmm, maybe these people are nothing more than script kiddies who somehow got a hold of a botnet. Only reason that they'd do it to RS would be for "t3h lulz" - no ransom, no rhyme to it, just to cause anarchy. As said above, angry pkers perhaps? Or if possible 1 person who is furious for prot item? maybe sold his dlcaws or something and wants to take it out on jagex... Let your yellow mellow.
