I just downloaded Camtasia 6, and I was just wondering what is a good editing program to edit my videos?

Thanks.

It depends on your budget or morality.

Windows Movie Maker comes absolutely free in most PCs. It's very basic, just copy-paste clips (only 1 video timeline) with very few effects and some transitions. Macs have iMovie or something similar.

A bit more costly, Adobe Premiere Elements costs $50-120 dollars depending where you're buying them and which version. (I think 7 is the latest.) I had the 4th for $60. This has more effects and editing power. If you want to put a bunch of clips at the screen at one time, this would be easier (Unlimited video timelines) since with Movie Maker you're going to have to save it, export it, and import it for every clip with the other.

Sony Vegas is another alternative to Adobe, but I don't know the price. It's similar to Adobe Premiere though. Editing is the same as Adobe but in a very different style.

Google them to get to their websites to find more specific information to the ones you want and where to buy them.

Read for perspective:

I'm not going to include price at all for so many reasons, both legit and not so legit, since this is the internet, and we better take advantage of it! :P

Trying to edit like an MLG hosted player montage takes a long time of practice or talent with editing. Such high grade editing comes from using multiple programs, not just one editing program. Photoshop, Adobe After Effects, Sony Vegas, Plug-Ins, Tutorials for each program, Dozens of Test Clips, Dozens of Montages/Videos, are the basic requirements to getting to that high grade level.

Then again, the best you'll or anyone will probably ever do is editing that is synced well with the song and the content in the video. Probably not use anything advance in Adobe After Effects (as in using tutorials to make your effects), maybe one ripped psd file in photoshop for each tage, and probably some decent but not so original/clever editing in Sony Vegas/Windows Movie Maker (With a Plug-In).

Then there is also the fact that 60%-70% of all videos are put into WMM, blue background/white text intro and outro and one long, long, long song for 6 minutes of a video.

Basically assess what type of level of editing you want to accomplish, or would like to start progressing towards. Editing content, music, and effects is an art and combining these three basic elements is how this art is presented. It may be corny, but it's the truth. Understand the fundamentals of syncing, picking a theme for the song(s), what kind of emotions you're going to get across in the videos you plan to make, and most importantly how passionate will you be towards this hobby?

Answer this and you'll fall into one of the three categories above (roughly), and then you'll find Google to be extremely helpful.

Also if you need pointers:

Halo3forum.com > Halo 3 Videos (or find the Halo 3 Movie Competition Thread, the first competition, not the ongoing second one)

MLGpro.com > Videos

Good luck.
