I didn't see anything in your topic about your points, but that's not the point...

Outfit as you would for any dragon task, but you will need to use Antifire potions, unlike the non-metals. There are tons of guides out there, but I've always felt like I get more out of a task like this if I overprepare the first time and then dial things back as I get more comfortable.

If you're going to melee, you'll want to pray melee, use a shield that blocks dragonfire (DFS or ADF), and bring prayer potions and antifire potions, not to mention food.

The trick will be to get yourself positioned so that ONLY Iron Dragons are going to fight you in the Brimhaven Dungeon...stay away from Steel Dragons because you might have to run a long way to get one that targets you to lose interest. I like turning off auto-retaliate, too.

Again, there are lots of guides out there...including one on this site. I usually ignore the set-up guidelines because the people that write the guides usually have tons of high priced gear and don't realize that not everyone has access to that sort of stuff, especially if they're fighting these things for the first time. The tips are good to know...you can tailor your gear and methods with more and more experience.

It was a good guide, I learned a lot from it, but I have two problems/questions remaining.

What are those potions in the "Recommended setup" section of the guide?

And about how many iron dragons am I looking to kill per trip?

As I mentioned, don't worry about set-ups. Many guides will tell you that you have to bring Ranging potions when Ranging and Super Attack and Super Strength when meleeing...I say it all depends on your levels.

If you're killing them and not on a task, then getting the most out of trips might include making quick ones which will mean potions will help...on Slayer tasks (first time trips to dangerous monsters) you just need to worry about surviving.

In the melee set-up, the purples are Antifire potions (necessity), the blues are Super Attacks (MAYBE bring one), the whites are Super Strengths (MAYBE bring one). Unless you're burying the Dragon bones (which, at the prices they are at now, would be stupid), you're going to fill up your inventory fast. Don't bother picking up the iron bars. I don't know how much you'll get out of your prayer, but bring more prayer potions and more food than you think you'll need...and as I mentioned, see how your first run goes (watch your adrenaline...stay calm for your first couple of kills) and then see how many you get before you have to bank in order to avoid dropping full potions or food. Go back with a little less and gradually you'll hit that sweet spot and you'll remember that for future runs.

Guides here frequently aren't made for first time runs, so just keep that in mind...

I'm pretty bad at range so I use either melee or mage, so far it's always been melee, anyway I use:

neit helm, stole, prayer boosting cape, full prossy, fury, barrow gloves, d boots, ring of wealth and unholy book

So the main idea is to put a lot on pray to spare out pray pots. In your inventory I'd say 6 monks, 6 pray pots, 4 anti fires, 2 super att, 2 super str, holy wrench. Don't forget hatchet and money.

I I'd use melee I'd use full void mage with claws of guthix prolly, but this might be bad advise, I'm no expert in mage.

Alright thanks man, I till have some super stuff stashed up, I'll bring and attack, strength, maybe 2-3 prayer pots, 5 anti fires and the rest in shark?

As I mentioned, your first trip should be short...one each of the super set would be fine and you probably only need one or two doses. Antifire potions...you definitely don't need that many. One , maybe two full vials is probably all you'll use and if you run out of protection before that, then you're dropping stuff you probably shouldn't or something went wrong. You will need more prayer potions, but again, over-prepare for your first trip. I would bring sharks for your first trip, but you'll probably discover that you can get by easily with monkfish or even less if you're set up correctly...that's something that you'll figure out. You'll need a hatchet, but you can get a bronze in Brimhaven if you forget.

Definitely bring a one-click teleport in case something goes really wrong. POH tabs are getting cheaper with the new "make-all" option in a recent update...buy a couple for this task.

I don't see how I wouldn't need food, if I pray melee it could still get me with it's breath?

If you pray (if meleeing, if you are ranging or maging you won't need to pray if you space yourself out), use anti-fires, and anti-fire shield, you do not need food, except for emergencies.

You don't need food because with the anti-dragonfire shield and anti-dragonfire potions, you have 100% protection from the dragonfire. Add in the protect from melee prayer, and you take no damage at all. Just remember to re-pot when you see the message "Your resistance to dragonfire has run out!" or something like that.

What can I get cheap that boosts my prayer up big time?

Proselyte

Really your only other option is monk robes- same prayer bonus, far less defence. Unless you have/can afford some god vestments.

Edit: Proselyte chest actually gives 2 more prayer than monk top.

Melee at his levels...and don't listen to people saying you need 10 antifire potions. That's utterly ridiculous. You are not camping out there. You have a task of 44. Just try a few out as I mentioned and see what you can handle, because everyone's style is different.

Follow the tips (but not the set-ups) on the guide here on the site.

You're not asking how to kill these for profit, so don't pay attention to people telling you to do it. Just kill what you have to and move on.

Proselyte chest would help a little. But only if you need to bank anyway.

If you don't have a black mask, then definitely use super strength and super attack potions so you can rip through them faster to save time and therefore potions. Also, if you have the Holy Wrench from the Rum Deal quest, you should use it.

Too bad prayer potions are so expensive and hard to come by lately.

I'm only marginally stronger than you are, and I'm able to down steels for profit when I'm doing slayer. You can kill them with a lot of expensive gear, or on a budget. This is my melee setup:

Head: Slayer Helm / Black Mask - This is almost a necessity. What is it, +10% more attack to your slayer targets? That's like having an attack potion on at all times.

Body: Proselyte Chest - Easy to get, and a good prayer boost.

Legs: Proselyte Legs - Same as above.

Neck: Glory / Fury - Both increase your damage output. Either is good.

Ring: Any - Doesn't really matter, but I like to bring a wealth, just in case something special drops. :)

Wrist: Dragon Slayer Gloves / Combat Bracelet - If you can stand doing Fist of Guthix, get the gloves, since they add another percentage boost to your attack and strength, I believe. Else, combat braclet, since the stats are good, plus it tracks your slayer task.

Weapon: The best 1h weapon you can afford. For most people tihs should be the whip or Dragon Scimitar.

Offhand: Anti-Dragonfire Shield - This is a MUST. You WILL die unless you have this.

Inventory:

1x Food (I like to use shark)

2-3x Antifire Potion(4) (To completely negate breath damage, with the shield)

3x Prayer Potion(4) (to increase the time you are immune to their melee damage)

1x Hatchet (to get there)

905x gold (30 to get from Ardougne, and 875 to enter dungeon)

The way I turn a profit from this is to bring a Terrorbird with me for an extra 12 slots, and pick up every bar and bones they drop. Avoid the throwing weapons if you can, since they generally sell poorly. Leave shortly after your inventory is full. I know you're not hunting them for profit, but you can still try to minimize your losses by fighting smart. :)

Seriously, once you have protect from melee on, a shield, and anti pot up, you can roll your face on the keyboard until it dies, or you need to refresh your resistance or prayer. Killing them is super-easy once you get the hang of it.

The smarter thing would be to leave the bars so you have more room for the bones. The bars are bad, and the d bones are worth much more.

Another thing is you could try a Leaf-Bladed sword, on stab, to kill them. Whip is ok but since the dragons are weak to stab this might have a better chance. Now at higher attack levels a whip is the best to use.

And its 15% attack and str with the mask/helm/

I agree...even Mithril bars aren't profitable enough non-noted to care about when fighting Mithril Dragons. Pick up the bars to fill up inventory spaces before you leave, of course, but don't take them if you've still got prayer to use.

Don't bother with anything but an Abyssal whip, since you already have it. If you didn't have it, some other type of sword with a stab would be good, but you have the attack levels necessary and you said you were potting anyway.

A black mask would be a good investment if you'll be doing a lot of Slaying. You'll need one to make a Slayer helm later on in your Slaying career anyway.

I would look through your entire inventory for Prayer boosting items if you're going through prayer pots like crazy.

Here is my current best prayer boosting gear:

[hide=Prayer Boost]Helm> Guthix mitre > Proselyte sallet > Initiate sallet = Helm of neitiznot = Seers' headband 3

Body> Proselyte hauberk > Initiate hauberk = Monk's robe top

Legs> Proselyte cuisse = Initiate cuisse = Monk's robe bottom

Gloves> White gloves

Boots> Bandos boots = White boots

Necklace> Guthix stole > Holy symbol = Unholy symbol

Cape> Guthix cloak

Ring> Explorer's ring 3

Shield> Falador shield 3

Weapon> Guthix crozier[/hide]

I'd wear Initiate if you can't buy Proselyte stuff yet, even though it's equal to Monk's robe in prayer boost. Why? Because you can get away with it as melee gear before you get there or if prayer runs out. Monk's robes are terrible for dealing with melee attacks.

If you can't unlock the White gloves purchase from the White Knight armoury, then you're probably out of luck there. Wear something like Barrows gloves instead (if you could afford those) or a Combat bracelet. I sometimes wear Barrows instead when Praying against monsters, just because I can get away with it. Investing in a cape with Prayer is good, but I got lucky over the months getting TT clues with Guthix vestments in it. OBVIOUSLY, you want to use a whip, but the crozier is included because it's the highest boosting item in that slot.

How did I discover all that stuff? I sorted it using Tip.It's stat sorter. It's not perfect (and some features are missing from it that I'd like included on there), but I used it to sort through every type of boost and defence I have (see my blog for that).

First, click on the item slot you'll be sorting through. Then click on "Prayer" in the name row after sorting for items (or use this link each time before starting). Go from the top down until you see something you own. That should be the best prayer boosting item for you. Repeat for the other equipment slots.

Remember, there are trade-offs for using certain items, so make sure you can still do damage at whatever levels you have (example, using White gloves instead of Barrows gloves might not be worth the 1 point prayer boost instead of great stats that Barrows gloves provide if you can wear them).
