I would say about 30-35M for training (using SC hammers and using my butler to take logs to the bank while making oak doors). I had 65M, but I now only have 3.5M. I wanted to be able to buy a lot of furniture along the way, so I had to choose the longer route in order to afford it all. Once you use the noted logs on him and select 20 (assuming you're making oak doors, 16 if making larders), you just can right-click him and select Fetch and then click on the top option.
