Welcome to my guide on ranged tanks, the best pkers in runescape! You may have seen my guide on Defence pures which was pretty fun to make. I in fact liked writing it so much that I am going to try my hand at a pvp based pure;a ranged tank. Before I begin this thread has made a special accomplishment already! It is the 2000th AoW thread posted! So lets give a round of applause to the thread! =D> Now this is my first pvp based guide, so I only want constructive critisism, that means no "z0mg dis sux scrap d3 hol ideas" :shame: Any way on to the table of contents :roll:

Well this guide is (hopfully)going to teach you every thing that you need to know abouta)making a ranged tank b)pking with a range tank and c)The advantages of being a ranged tank and not a dopey 1 def pjer :shame: Another thing that I wish to teah you is how to have honor like not saying at the end of a fight"Friggen pwnd u nub" but more like "gf". I also want to teach you how to be remembered and respected as one of the greatest pkers of all time; the guide to awesomeness begins now.

A range tank is a pker that has 99 range and defence(preferably) Range tanks are better than 1 def pures in many ways just a few are.

Now as you have seen any range tank owns a 1 def pure, but what about a zerker? Well then check out I liberate I's pvp vids on youtube. Ever seen so much pwnage? I highly doubt it.

Explanation of stats

Well here I will tell you what you will accoplish by the end of the yellow brick road and why.

Attack:60

Why? Unlike 70 you can have 88 str without gaining a lvl and you get d claws ;-)

 

Str:88

Why?Hitting high with d claws is amazing especially when you can without gaining Combat.

 

Defence:99

Why?You wont be hit often, you can do quests easily, full void and barrows the list is endless

 

Range:99

Why?This is what you will attack with most of the time. Hitting 96 with a dark bow is rare but cool also.

 

Hp:95(99)

Why?You live longer. 99 is if you got 99 summoning by the way.

 

Magic:96

Why?Spellbook swap is great in PvP

 

Summoning:1(99)

Why?Hitting a 90+ at the cost of staying in 12+ wildy? Come on!

 

Prayer:70

Why?Piety is helpful.

Make your account with a good name. Although you can change your display name logging in as

r4ng3 t4nke4 is very degrading :lol: I recomend something that you like even if it isnt menacing. I would say much rather be kEvin rudolph than xxpk3r48693xx. I have made many accounts and all of them are numberless. 13375p34k3rs are really sad. I once saw a level 78(before names update) called 1 pk3d 090 it was even worse because they were 99 str and 70 atk.Lol Also make your password memorable but impossible to guess. If you like airplanes then you could have the password a380isgreat, a memorable yet hard to guess name.

Log in and comeplete the tutorial. It takes 5 mins at max. Use the xp on mining,not woodcutting. Otherthan that, just do it as fast as possible.

 

 

 

2.2

After you have made your new account log in and go find the barbarian village. Go north to the safety center and pull back the poster. Go down the stairs and go up the stairs to the north. Comeplete the maze for an easy 10k,safety gloves and 1k xp in a skill. Now use the lamps both on range. Now go to edgeville and bank all items. Now go back to the barbarian village and comeplete the SECURITY stronghold for another easy 10k. If you are queasy about doing it at lvl 3 with no food than bank after the 3rd level. You should now go to the F.O.G also known as the fist of guthix arena.

 

You will be training magic here because even though the exp is mediocre the runes are free which is a plus. Once there comeplete the tutorial and begin playing. When playing always remember to suicide, not forfeit as while forfeiting you lose out on 2 tokens. I recomend staying here until level 35 magic for fire bolt.(not a harry potter reference in anyway!)

Now that you can hit 14s at level 21 combat go to the grand exchange and buy the following

1.25chaos runes

2.Air and fire runes

3.25salmon

 

Before you begin pvp you need one last thing:25k

you need the cash for drops even though the drops are fine without. I recomend comepleting rune mysteries and mining 1k essence. It is more than you need, but you can fall back on it should you die.

 

Now that you have 25k equip yourself with your runes, salmon and 25k. Go to world 17 bounty hunter and wait in lvl1 wildy for a target. Once you have one fire bolt them dead and take the drops. Go now to mandrith in the edgville bank and sell your artifacts. Here we'll assume you made 100k in addtion to your 25k.

 

You should now have 125k from 2 days of casual training.

Although you have 125k you need a bit more. I recomend 300k but 200k is fine. To get the money use A,B,C or a mix of all.

A.Woodcutting

1-15=Normal trees around lumby castle.

15-30=Oaks by Varrock West bank.

30-60=Willows at Draynor

60+=Yews in Rummington

 

B.Mining

1-20=Copper at lumby mine.

20-60=Iron in Dwarven Mines

60+=Mining Guild

 

C.Fishing

1-25=Draynor shrimps&anchovies

25-60=Barb village

60+=Swordies at Karajama

Now that you have around 325k in f2p you have a decent pile of cash which you need in the next steps.

You will do dragon slayer soon, but you need 33 quest points to start it. Here are the quests I recomend doing and notes about them

1.Earnest The Chicken

Notes:Huge Qps for the difficulty, gives 600 coins.

 

2.Imp Catcher

Notes:Buy beads in ge,sell ammy of accuracy

 

3.Witch's Potion

Notes:None

 

4.Prince Ali Rescue

Notes:No toll anymore

 

5.Vampire Slayer

Notes:4250 Att Xp

 

6.Goblin Diplomacy

Notes:None

 

7.Romeo&julliet

Notes:5qps

 

8.Demon Slayer

Notes:None

 

9.Doric's Quest

Notes:Buy Ore in ge, he's named after a type of Greek Pillar

 

10.Pirates Treasure

Notes:None

 

11.Cook's Assistant

Notes:None

 

12.Sheep Shearer

Notes:Buy the Wool

 

13.Black Knight'S Fortress

Notes:11 qps Needed

 

14.Knight's Sword

Notes:12k Smith xp, 29 Smithing

We will be doing dragon slayer here, so you will need 1+Friends

Because this guide is for people that know what their doing in runescape, I will only tell you how to beat Elvarg.

 

Once you have done enough this quest to kill elvarg get a few friends to have invs of swordies waiting outside of the cavern for you once you eat your inventory. You will kill Elvarg with magic from a distance with fire bolt. You should be able to get Elvarg to half Hp in an Inv, so Have friends Bring you swordies.

Now go to Oziach and claim your xp for 33 str and def.

 

2.7

Now you need to level your range, meele and mage along with other skills.

First Buy From The ge all shortbows up to maple,1k steel arrows,full leather,studded Chaps,green d'hide vambs and chaps,accuracy ammy, team cape of choice, 200 Salmon,scims Up to Rune, 1k fires,an air staff and 2k Earth Runes,full wizzy,mage ammy,Str ammy,Full Addy. That should have drained 100k from your account.

 

2.7(Range)

Go to chickens with your training bow until 5 range at which time you should equip your oak short with steel arrows. Remain Here Until 15 range. Now go to the cows and get 20 range and equip your willow bow. Now go get an inv of salmon and go to monks until 30 range. Now go to the level 12 minotaurs in the stronghold of security until 40 range. Equip your green d'hide and go to the flesh crawlers at the second level. KIll these until 50 range.

 

2.7(Melee)

Go to the chickens in Lumbridge like in the Ranged Portion and kill them until 5 atk and str at which point you should switch to steel using iron. Now go to the cows until 20 atk and str banking all of your cowhides and raw beef. Now go to monks with a mithril scimitar until 30 attack when you should go to the stronghold of security minotaurs with an adamant scimitar until you acheive 40 attack and stregnth.

 

2.7(Mage)

From all of the questing and dragon slayer you should have say 40 mage now. You will get 45 very quickly and cheaply. First take your full wizzy and runes along with some food. Proceed to Karajama and go to the lesser demons. Set your fire strike to auto cast and kill away using this you should be done in less than 2 hours.

 

2.7(Other)

Well if you want to do anything, do it now because we will be making even more cash with f2p soon. This may include:Selling anything over 1k on the account or making back any lost money.

 

 

2.8

Well Here we will be making around 700 more (k) in f2p before we prepare for members. I recomend staying with the method you used earlier because then this will be much faster. I will use the same format as earlier

 

A

You will be using woodcutting. Using yews in rummington is best so we will go there. You will need to cut 1750yew logs to get 700k assuming they are 400 each. THis will give you about 67 woodcutting also.

 

B

You will be using the famed skill mining. Use the mining guild here!You will need to mine roughly 4000 coal to do this and will receive in addition to this level 66 mining assuming tht the coal ore gives you 180 gp each.

 

C

You will be using the slowest method with Lobsters at Musa point. The skill we will use is fishing the only remaining f2p skill. You will need to catch a staggering 2000Lobsters to acheive this. You will amass level 64 fishing with this.

 

Now that you have about 1m get ready to end your f2p career.

Well in the next section you begin your members career! Lets take a look at whatyou have accomplished in f2p!

1:Dragon Slayer @ 25 combat!

2:50 Range

3:40 Attack&Str

4:45 Mage!

Any way now you should get members as the range tank is a p2p pker. Also in the next sections I will teach you a tactic in training to always get your spot! Anyhoo get members before you get to the next section; 3.0.

First of all, 94 def is better than 99 def. This is because at 94 def, super def pots add an extra def boost compared to previous levels. Plus you won't see any difference in protection from 95-99, other than unnecessary combat levels. As a maxed tank, I had the most success at 94 def, but as soon as I trained for a month to get 99 def, I started losing most of my fights since my combat level had put me against stronger people and my defence really hadn't changed at all.

 

Secondly, either set the magic requirement to 94 or 99. Nobody uses spellbook swap while PK'ing.

 

Also, 60 att and 88 str is a no-no. If you're 99 range and presumably 90+ def and hp as well by that time, your opponents aren't going to be pures anymore and have enough defence to withstand your 60 attack. 78 att and 70 str would be better for PvP weapons. Plus you can train your defence w/ a whip at 70 att. Either way, if you wanna get all your KOs from dragon claws, just train melee stats - don't try and be clever by ranging the whole fight then only relying on the claws to KO. Use dragonfire bolts and a dark bow instead, as well as ice barrage or vengeance.

 

70 prayer is a terrible idea - your prayer level should go no higher than 52. You get 2 combat levels just for an extra 10% boost in defence which you won't notice if you get 70 prayer. Plus if you use piety that means you can't use eagle eye.

A couple of things i noticed:

- You should put the titles of the sections before the sections, its annoying to have to scroll up to see what you're talking about.

- Put more emphasis on the "why" rather than the "how".

- Don't focus on creating a large guide, just make it as good as possible without any artificial fillers.

- Be sure to test your information and make sure that it is 100% correct before you post it, don't be afraid to take your time.

- Try to incorporate more pictures, they make the guide easier to read.

- Try to use good grammar, you're doing pretty well, so just keep it up.

- When you start talking about pking, be sure to include some videos, so your readers know that your methods works, as well as to help them visualize what to do.
