Unjustified censorship!

Featured Replies

I am sorry to see that Jagex has had to censor these words. But in my mind, a swear word (and so any word that 'needs' to be censored as it offends a person) is only a swear/censored word because people use it as such. For example, if people only used '[wagon]' to mean 'donkey' we wouldn't have this problem, and if people only used gay to refer to a person who's actually gay and who would like to be called/described as such then there would be no need to censor any word.

Sadly, this is not the case. Because of the stupidity of the general public (especially the age group that typically plays RuneScape), another group of people is hurt. This will continue until the general public at least accepts the fact that some people aren't hetero and (hopefully) understands that they're as normal as anyone else. Perhaps in turn everyone should be better educated about being gay/lesbian and that everyone needs to be treated like the human being they are.

People should harden the [bleep] up, but if they cant .....

Uncensor all words, and make it display as censored if the user chooses to allow it. That way the people that want to swear can swear, and the people that don't want to see it, won't see it. This avoids people abusing the system by adding in i's and such to avoid the ****. e.g. "Scriew that". So the person who wants to say screw that, can do so, and the person that doesn't want to see it, won't. Parents can make their children put the censor option on also, to keep their peace of mind.

(If you're not sure exactly what I'm talking about, simply think of the censor method Blizzard use in WoW, that's what I'm discussing)

There really is no point to the censor. If people want to use offensive language they will find a way around it. Like g@y, wonder f land if they havn't fixed that one yet, the old q p w. If people really want to offend someone there are tons of ways to do it, cenor or no censor. That being said, it also isn't really appropiate to talk about mature discusions like sexual oriantation on a game, especially one that is played by younger kids.

As a side note to the debate that was going on somewhere in the first half of this topic about how jagex is being fair and unbiased because both homo and hetero sexual words are blocked theres a nice big hole in that argument. The miscilenia quest line. Up coming wedding, don't get to chose your partner, ect.

Me behave? Seriously? As a child I saw Tarzan almost naked, Cinderella arrived home from a party after midnight, Pinocchio told lies, Aladin was a thief, Batman drove over 200 miles an hour, Snow White lived in a house with seven men, Popeye smoked a pipe and had tattoos, Pac man ran around to digital music while eating pills that enhanced his performance, and Shaggy and Scooby were mystery solving hippies who always had the munchies. The fault is not mine! if you had this childhood and loved it put this in your signature!
