Bladewing
This has always been a pet peeve of mine, but now it's just absurd. Often, I am browsing TIF while, say, playing Runescape. Before the forum changeover, it was not uncommon for me to click over to my TIF window to focus on reading and posting for a while and click on an image. Unbeknown to me, there were URL tags around images, causing me to load some foreign page. This was an inconvenience, and while I would have appreciated a change in rules, I was content to live without one. But now that images are nearly always resized and must be clicked to view full-size, it is impossible to view many images because of the URL tags that link you to another site when you attempt to view them! Some players use SwiftKit to take screenshots, while others copy forum coding from an image host such as Photobucket, both of which will by default have URL tags linking to their site. It is ridiculous to allow the minority's laziness to adversely affect the entire viewing population. Having URL tags around images that are large enough to be resized should be against TIF rules. Ermy
I hate this too, it's a bloody pain! There should be a setting in ipb somewhere to turn off auto-resizing. Or could the lazy people just paste links directly in and have a check. Those with a little bit of knowledge are more dangerous than those with none. Wheels
This would be kind of difficult to fix, seeing as not everyone uses the same monitor resolutions. That's what causes the resizing in the first place. (correct me if I'm wrong) Are you winning The Game?
Cowman_133
I am having serious trouble understanding why this is such a big deal. Linked images are used all over the internet in forums, blogs, websites, search engines etc. etc. It would be utterly absurd to make them against the forum rules - it just doesn't make any sense. Though as I read down, you seemed to talk more about these links http://media.photobucket.com/image/happy%20halloween/Timea_ft/avatar/90d5513f3adc38446568eb08e50b1a46.png or the thumbnail links you have to click to see the whole image. Both of these methods have been in use on any forum for ages. This isn't anything new and it's used, again, on tons of forums all over the internet. Yes, I realize it is very annoying to have to click the URL to see the image (and especially imageshack's little adverts they throw in there - 'DO FISH BREATH LOLOL?') but this is only a personal pet peeve of some people and not everyone. We would have a hard time justifying a ban on this (the only reason would be 'Some people find it annoying') and enforcing it - mods don't have that much time to handle this stuff. So basically, I agree with some of your points, but I have to look at it from a view of someone who isn't annoyed by this as well. JoeDaStudd
I've not expeirenced this issue, but could see it being rather annoying if your using a lower resolution then I use. Cowman_133 the issue is the new forums auto size large images to avoid messing up the width of the site. To get them to 100% you have to click the image to make it full screen, if they have a link it takes you to the link instead of resizing. This example should helpIf it doesn't redirect on first click, click it again. EDIT image was taken from the screeny thread and belongs to the poster, I just didn't have any images uploaded big enough. Bladewing
So basically, I agree with some of your points, but I have to look at it from a view of someone who isn't annoyed by this as well. Thanks, ~CowmanBefore the forum change, it was merely an annoyance to click on it by accident. Now the resizing of images compels the viewer to click on large images to resize - otherwise it is impossible to see their content. But if there are URL tags around the image, it'll send you to a site, NOT resize the image. So it is impossible to view the image. meol
I see what's wrong, and I see how it is a nuisance. Banning url tags around large images altogether isn't a great solution in my eyes though. This signature is intentionally left blank.
Hawks
I think auto-resize should be able to be turned off but links shouldn't be banned. There ought to be a way the admins can enable that option for the users (to disable auto-resizing), it bugs me because whenever I scroll through somewhere there's a huge pic, it makes my comp scroll very slowly. I always put stuff in hide tags anyway, and host with tinypic or devart which don't give links automatically. sig by Soa.....tip.it times.....art & mediadeviantart/flickr/last.fm/steam/twitter/tumblr/youtube
Cowman_133
Ah, I didn't realize the forums did this. But still, making it against the rules would be just silly and unenforceable. It may be able to be disabled by the admin team - maybe an admin will shed more light on this.
