Disable startup programs that open when you boot up your computer and that run in the background. Such as messaging programs.

How do you access the place where you can disable them? My brother showed me but i forgot.

Was it Drive>Config??

EDIT:

Drive>Msconfig?

Done that.

Only thingi disabled was the HP update for a uinstalled stupid printer.

Thanks alot

Organize your disk, and then clean your components especially your cpu fan.

By organizing disks you mean?:

Disk defragmenter (That speeds it up right?)

Disk cleanup (That too??)

Cleaning of components: Thanks sounds good.

Much easier solution.

Ctrl-Alt-Del -> Task Manager

Kill all the execs which aren't necessary.

Probably got several lsass, spools and svcs' that you dont need.

More often than not, you've got 3 - 4 microsoft process which are really unneccesary and just hog mem.

Make sure you know which one's are non-essential, otherwise you could [bleep] up.

Actually, post a hi-jack this test, and Id be willing to help you out. ;)

I helped create this snippet a while back.

In essence run CCleaner, defrag, disable start up options then look at tweaking more.

What are your full system spec (the sticky should help)?

What actions can i take to speed up a/my computer? Not buying components, just using programs or something to speed it up..

This should help you greatly:

1. http://www.ccleaner.com/ <---cleans up the registry, wipes free space, deletes temporary internet file, etc.

2. http://www.auslogics.com/en/software/disk-defrag/download <---far superior to the windows defragmenter

3. To access the boot menu in windows start > run > msconfig > startup <--- any changes will require a reboot

These basic things should help out a lot. If you need anything else let me know.

Don't suggest that. That's not safe at all.

And msconfig is just as bad for people who don't know what they are turning off. Ccleaner might be the only thing that helps. Defragmentation will doubtably do anything you notice.

hehe, I thought so.

However I feel that I am over complicating matters ...

anyway, this solution has never failed me...

question hemen, is it slow on booting up, or just generally all the time ?

My computer is pretty fast. I don't have much program installed :) Just asked to help a friend. His computer is slow but he have not reported anything special. I was just wondering what the options to speeding a computer up is so that i could tell him to do those.

Msconfig - I told him to remove ones he didn't use. System32 or Systemfiles i told him not to touch them.

Thanks.

autoruns.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx

You can choose to not list signed Microsoft entries, so there is almost no chance of wrecking the computer. Also, if you see something you aren't sure about un-ticking, then don't un-tick it.

Run the autoruns[Caution: Executable File] not autorunsc[Caution: Executable File], as the latter is an MS-DOS command line.

Killing lsass, spools and svcs' (if you mean svchost) is not something to do. They are important to the working of Windows.

respectfully disagree, still what works for one may not work for others.

Suggest you read this Adrenal

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/what-is-svchostexe-and-why-is-it-running/ <--- svchost[Caution: Executable File]

The only system out of those three that could be closed without affecting windows is "spoolsv[Caution: Executable File]" beings as it only deals with printers and faxes...but that's okay not you like you need to ever print anything right?

Quite correct; although i hate not having the print service. I remember when mine would crash on boot... oh fun times.

Long story short.. the quickest method of 'speeding up your computer' other than clear it of crap.. is update the hardware.

Although if it was brand new, latest tech and still running like a slug... smells like malware.

Speaking of malware:

They are viruses that have as goal to use your computer to advertise spam advertisement right?

In other words advertising in a illegal way. Just checking to confirm. And i assume it slows your computer down by doing so.

Well they work by using your PC as a spamming platform using any email accounts you have to sent out spam.
