November 25, 200916 yr I have an HP dv9000 laptop which died recently; by died I mean It just won't charge and the battery is dead, so it won't turn on.There are a few files I want from it though. Is there any way I can take the hard drive from my dv9000 and put it into another computer (or anything along those lines)? I've tried charging it just so I can move the files into an external but it the adapter or power slot just won't work.Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance. Suggest a poll for Tip.it - Here!

They usually only cost between $10-20 so they're not that expensive. Another option would be to take the hard drive out and put it into another laptop to access it. November 25, 200916 yr Suzis laptop recently died so i took the hard drive out and put it in a usb enclosure. Cost £4. Acts just like an external hdd now. November 25, 200916 yr It is actually a standard laptop SATA drive. To get it to fit into another computer you will need to remove the HP adapter from the end of the hard drive. It is like a black piece that looks like part of the hard drive but it isn't it will pull off. Pull that off and it will then have the standard sata connections.

November 29, 200916 yr Ah, I didn't know you wanted Windows to work. I thought you wanted to back up your files to another hard disk. They are standard SATA connectors so you should be able to plug it in a desktop (while not attaching it) and back up your files, but getting Windows to work, you're going to have to put it in the same model of computer that has the same hardware because of the drivers.
