Waterfiends.

Recommended Posts

Well, I just got waterfiends as a slayer task for the first time. I checked axe man jack's guide in the AOW already, and it suggested that I use range pray while wearing karils and using a crush weapon.

So, I loaded up on p pots and bought a z-spear for the occasion, just to go down and see most people using whips and not praying at all. And, to top it off, I keep getting blasted for 30-40 by those brutal dragons nearby so I can hardly even stay alive. I try to stay away from them but they seem to keep finding me >.<

I have a feeling the guide that I was looking at is pretty out of date, so is there anyone here who has killed waterfiends recently and can give me a hand with this? If I can't figure it out I'll probably end up blocking them, which I think is a shame because of the great charms they drop.

Thanks in advance :]

when you first do it follow axe man jacks guide. As for the green dragons pro mage when they attack you and stay in the very corner of that little waterifiend area untill they are unagressive, after that 10 minutes or so the green dragons won't attack you.

Hmm okay, that takes care of the green dragon problem. Thanks guys.

What about a weapon? Should I continue using the zammy spear or is a whip better? I suppose I could get a sara sword, I can easily afford it, but I won't use it for anything else so I'd rather not buy one just for this particular task.

Oh, and should I pray range or not? I didn't see anyone down there using it.

The Saradomin Sword's speed is comparable to that of the Abyssal Whip and is marginally better for killing waterfiends in comparison to the Zamorakian Spear.

If money is no object and you're just looking for the fastest and best way to kill them, go for it.

SS and ZS kill waterfiends at pretty much the same rate, so there's not much reason to use the SS except that it trains strength rather than controlled, which is a minor advantage because you'd normally need to sacrifice efficiency to train strength on its own, but in this case you happen to already have an aggressive option on the optimal weapon.

If the brutal green dragons bother you, you can bring a spade and 5 bittercap mushrooms to create a fairy ring that will let you travel to the waterfiends without passing by the dragons. The key is really a bunyip and Swallow Whole scrolls. Combined with an EE or SGS spec every so often, you can really cut down on food (although you'll still want to bring a few monkfish) and you'll need to use Pro Range less often. Piety will also go a long way towards speeding up your kills, so don't skimp on the prayer pots.

I'm actually training controlled right now anyways, so in this case it's more of an advantage to me to use the spear instead of buying as SS.

Thanks very much for your help, everyone :]

Using this method I was able to kill 244 waterfiends on task in one trip with 2 yip pouches, 12 ppots, 6 monkfish, and 2 super sets (That new slayer master doesn't hold back with her assignments  ). It's really the best way to do the tasks until you get a uni, extreme sets, and 95 prayer.

Ive never been attacked by green dragons while I was there. I'd say just stay in the waterfiend corner and you are fine.

And on the unicorn matter: I think bunyip with swallow whole scrolls heals more than unicorn here, and it is cheaper.

Not if you bank raw sharks with the new fairy ring. Then again, ice goddess might not have either of these to use, in which case I suggest the best beast of burden at her disposal.

In general, the Bunyip is less reliable for healing when you get hit a lot in a bad stroke of luck.

But they have to drop them to make it worth while. And from my last few tasks, they only dropped raw lobs/sharlks once or twice during the entire task. If i was using the Bunyip i would have had a harder time to do the task.

These are much easier to do now that there's a fairy ring in the area. Just wear Karil's, use a crush weapon and bring a beast of burden with food.

Is there a cheaper alternative to Karil's, besides void? Please say you can use Black D'hide. 77 Defence.

Black dhide is fine, Karil's is just a step better.

Thanks for all the advice everyone, I managed to finish my task in 2 trips.
