Well, safespotting strikers works when mining (and fishing) :) but it's whole different story because you don't have many of them on you. Maybe if you find good spot there for that purpose.. Most of the safe spots rely on you not being under attack from a striker when you get there and being out of their usual wander/attack range. Not first hand experience since haven't used myself but I have seen them from time to time while I have been fishing there for 20k rocktails and mined gold from 80 to 90 mining.
