F2P mages need some armor

Featured Replies

Hello. I think its about time the F2P mages had an update to their little blue robes of theirs.

You have noticed how the triangle is like this

Ranger beats Mage

Warrior beats Ranger

Mage beats Warrior BUT warrior's blade slices through the +1 to slash the robes have.

yes but.... for the triangle to work mage armor would have to have HIGH melee defense but LOW range defense... and thinking in terms of reality i cant think of ANYTHING that has the characteristics in real life

well no mage stuff for free players is an excuse to become a member.

Mages in free to play do not and should not have/need new mage armour, because mages are never meant to have powerful defense and having new free armours would probably make free play mages slightly too powerful.

If you wish to give mages an edge over warriors in free worlds, give snare (or whatever the ten second bind spell is)... that should be enough. I doubt that would ever happen though, so yeah.

Why do you resist? My experiments are only helping humanity push the boundaries of the Art of Toxicology... you should be proud to be one of my victims.

The F2P Mage is already lethal in the wilderness, a frequent pest of mining trips.

However, having decided to create one myself, I now find:

1. Getting a mind talisman is the first trouble spot

2. The price of non craftable runes, and the low availabilty, is a problem.

If I could have one thing as a F2P mage, I'd ask for the abilty to craft chaos - since members stay a step above with the abiulity to craft deaths.

My F2P mage will probably have full iron, to wear while traversing aggressive monster infested areas without fighting.

noooooo mages with armour is the end to my supply of free runes.

Can I ask why a p2per gives a dookie about what f2p has?

Besides, f2p has other magic armor. Oh wait, no they don't.... members do because we pay for it how silly of me  .

getting a mind talisman is extremely easy, check the bestiary. wizards drop more than you need

getting chaos runes are very expensive if you are f2p. making chaos runes is quite hazardous if you are p2p. regardless of how you look at it, thay are not that easy to obtain. crafting mind runes is certainly the way to train mage whether your f2p or p2p (unless your super rich)

other than that, mages own fighters because they can attack at a distance and metal armor is easy to hit with magic

Body runes give more mage exp than mind runes.

The best mind based spell, fire strike, averages about 19 mage exp per cast.

Curse always gives 29 mage exp.

So youre saying once p2p gets an update, f2p should be able to play how p2p did before the update?

I dont think you know exactly how hard it is to craft deaths  Its not like on the update day we all just headed over to the death alter and got craftin'...

curse is time consuming, since you have to click the spell and then the target, and since you can only cast 1 successful curse per target. you end up wasting more time and exp comes in slower

I do not believe any armor exists in real life that increases peoples ability to cast magical spells. I don't know of anyone that can cast magical spells at all. So the reality part of mage armor shouldn't apply here.

I think tank mage is the best way to go because it does hurt ur magic bonus but does mage armor really give that great of a bonus anyway to magic so why not have decent defence

To whoever suggested snare: That would just increase mages role as an supplemental class to warrior... binding and snaring for them in multi.

F2P needs everything, but we don't get it do we? Suggesting things for F2P will NOT happen unless Jagex HAS to have it. Such as the whole sleeping back fatigue thing back in Runescape Classic, it wasn't a choice.

I'd like to submit this:

A lot of people who say they're overpowered by mages/rangers/warriors are not being reasonable about level. They might think they should have an advantage regardless of level. In other words, mages can overpower warriros, yes, but a level 5 mage isn't going to own a 25 warrior. Make sense?
